Job description

National Underground Group (NUG) and its subsidiary Benchmark, LLC provide utility locating and 811 contractor locating services for major energy and telecommunications clients across the country. We're looking for an HR Coordinator to support day-to-day HR operations for our Ohio-based field team.
This is a hands-on, individual contributor role for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and eager to build a career in HR. You'll support recruiting, onboarding, employee records, training logistics, and safety administration for approximately 165 field employees, reporting to our HR Business Partner and working closely with Field Operations leadership every day.
What You'll Do

  • Support full-cycle recruiting for field roles - posting openings, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, conducting interviews and coordinating Pre-Employment Due Diligence (PEDD)documents for clear to hire
  • Coordinate new-hire onboarding - paperwork, background checks and first-day logistics - so new hires start safely, compliantly and ready to work.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions, helping track and follow up on employee relations matters
  • Schedule, prepare and conduct required training sessions and maintain accurate training records for field employees and leads
  • Support Safety with incident documentation, certification tracking and scheduling of required trainings.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and help prepare HR reports and KPI tracking
What You'll Bring
  • Associate's degree in HR, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1+ years of HR, administrative, or coordinator experience; exposure to a field, hourly, or blue-collar workforce is a plus.
  • Basic familiarity with employment law concepts (FLSA, ADA, FMLA, EEO), or willingness to learn.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems, with strong attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally to job sites in the Akron area.
Nice to Have
  • aPHR, SHRM-CP, or an equivalent HR certification (or actively pursuing one).
  • Experience in utility locating, damage prevention (811), construction, telecom, pipeline, or utility services.
  • Experience supporting a client-facing services contract.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Compensation & Benefits
We expect to pay $42,000-$55,000 per year for this role, based on experience - plus medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k); and paid time off.
