Job description

Job Details

Division: Nucor Building Systems Indiana

Location: Waterloo, IN, United States

Other Available Locations: N/A

Internal Title: Sales Engineer

Nucor Building Systems Indiana (NBSIN) is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer with 4+ years of pre-engineered metal building experience for a highly technical role supporting complex project design, estimating, value engineering, and sales strategy. This is not a traditional quota-carrying sales position.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering, estimating, and sales, giving you the opportunity to apply your technical expertise early in the project lifecycle. You'll partner with design leaders, sales teams, builders, and customers to develop competitive structural solutions, solve complex project challenges, and help position projects for success.

What You'll Do:
  • Engineer complex project opportunities. Use advanced estimating tools and design software to evaluate complex project quotes and develop practical, competitive structural solutions.
  • Drive value engineering. Identify opportunities to improve structural efficiency, product application, constructability, and overall project economics while considering business risk and customer requirements.
  • Partner with Sales and customers. Serve as a technical resource for District Sales Managers and builders, providing engineering expertise and helping translate project requirements into effective building solutions.
  • Influence projects early. Provide technical input on unique project scope requirements and help develop strategies that balance design requirements, risk, product capabilities, and cost.
  • Support and mentor teammates. Oversee estimates and provide technical guidance and mentorship to quote engineers and estimators within the department.
  • Improve engineering and estimating processes. Collaborate with the Estimating Supervisor and Design Supervisor to refine processes and practices that consistently produce competitive design solutions.
  • Collaborate across Nucor Buildings Group. Work with sales leadership across multiple brands to develop strategies for unique opportunities and strengthen project competitiveness.
  • Work directly with customers. Provide technical support remotely and in person to customers and District Sales Managers. This position requires approximately 25% travel, which may occasionally occur on short notice.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering from an ABET Accredited school.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in the Pre-Engineered Metal Building industry
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the United States
  • Specific Estimating and/or Engineering experience in PEMB industry is preferred
What Makes This Opportunity Different

This position offers experienced PEMB engineers an opportunity to expand their impact beyond traditional design work.

Rather than receiving a project after the major decisions have already been made, you'll bring your engineering expertise to the front end of complex opportunities-helping determine how projects should be approached, identifying economical design solutions, supporting customers, and influencing strategies that can directly contribute to winning work. You'll still solve technical engineering problems, but you'll also have the opportunity to mentor other engineers, collaborate directly with customers and sales leaders, and influence both project and business outcomes.
