Job description

Job Overview:
APTIM is seeking a Structural Engineer to support a varying portfolio of projects for federal and commercial clients. APTIM structural engineers lend their knowledge and experience to projects for the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, local authorities (nationwide), commercial retail companies, oil and gas providers and various coastal protection authorities.
Examples of engineering work include: building design, waterfront structures design, foundation design, existing structures evaluation and design (concrete, masonry, steel and heavy timber), design of temporary structures for construction activities, demolition planning, construction rigging and lifting plans, mechanical system structural support design, containment structures, and aboveground storage tank systems.
Key Responsibilities:
  • A full understanding of structural engineering resolving a wide range of issues in creative ways.
  • Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in structural engineering, plus working knowledge of other related fields.
  • Provides resolution to a diverse scope and range of complex problems.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Development of project design basis, development of calculations, development of specifications, and performance of detailed engineering.
  • Ability to review structural design drawings and project related submittals/shop drawings.
  • Ensures conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to a team environment.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Requires Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (or related degree). A Masters Degree in Structural Engineering is a plus.
  • 12+ years related experience.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mathcad, and technical engineering software such as STAAD or ANSYS), some CADD experience (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation) along with good verbal and writing skills.
  • PE or SE is required.
  • NCEES Record is a plus.
  • Nuclear experience is a plus.
  • Finite element analysis experience is a plus.
  • Candidates must be willing to travel for infrequent field assignments.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $98,000 - $163,000 Per Year. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
