Job Description:
The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking a full-time clinical Nuclear Medicine Physicist. The Department operates several nuclear medicine imaging systems across the metro Atlanta area. The ideal candidate will work within a collaborative physics team to help manage clinical protocols and regulatory compliance, while fostering nuclear medicine education, innovation, and best practices in quality and safety.
As a School of Medicine faculty member, the successful candidate will have opportunities to develop innovative clinical programs, contribute to the expansion of theranostics services, pursue collaborative research and educational initiatives, mentor trainees, and engage in national professional organizations as part of a rewarding academic career.
Essential roles and responsibilities include:
- Provide on-call technical and application support for nuclear medicine sites, including Emory Healthcare and Grady Health System.
- Liaise with radiologists and technologists to ensure effective nuclear medicine protocol implementation, operational workflow, safety, education, and patient care.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standardized nuclear medicine protocols; oversee image quality; troubleshoot imaging artifacts.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow and operational efficiency.
- Facilitate ongoing TJC and ACR compliance, through annual system surveys, image quality review, and oversight of technologist QA/QC programs.
- Partner with administrative and physician leaders to develop and implement system-wide quality and safety policies and procedures. Serve as a nuclear medicine safety expert resource for technologists and radiologists.
- Partner with physicians to develop patient-specific dosimetry workflows and protocols supporting diagnostic and theranostic nuclear medicine services.
- Interface with nuclear medicine system vendors to document downtime, guide effective applications training, and explore collaborative project opportunities. Advise Department about new system technology, upgrades, purchases, and siting.
- Provide nuclear medicine physics education, training, and mentorship to imaging physics and medical residents; develop educational resources and sessions for technologists and radiologists.
- Explore personal and departmental research interests through collaboration with other investigators and clinical partners, including in-house quality improvement projects.
- Participate in national professional societies, scientific meetings, committee leadership, invited presentations, and other activities that contribute to professional visibility and academic advancement.
- Evaluate research proposals that utilize Nuclear Medicine and PET. Assist investigators with site qualifications and phantom requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in medical physics or related physical sciences or engineering discipline.
- Experience and knowledge of nuclear medicine physics principles, including clinical applications, safety, and compliance testing.
- Experience with nuclear medicine technology and system operation, including protocol optimization.
- Strong communication and time management skills; motivated, flexible and collaborative.
- Certification in Medical Nuclear Physics or Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or in Nuclear Medicine Physics and Instrumentation by the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine (ABSNM).
- Faculty rank commensurate with experience.
