An NRA Instructor is a certified individual who teaches firearm safety, marksmanship, and responsible gun ownership following the guidelines set by the National Rifle Association (NRA). They provide training to beginners and experienced shooters in various disciplines, such as pistol, rifle, and shotgun. NRA Instructors must complete certification courses and demonstrate proficiency in firearm handling and instruction. Their goal is to promote safe and responsible firearm use through structured education.
An NRA Instructor is responsible for leading classroom sessions, demonstrating proper firearm techniques, and supervising live-fire exercises to ensure safety and skill development. Instructors assess students’ understanding, provide individualized feedback, and address questions related to firearm handling and range protocol. They also maintain detailed course records and ensure all activities meet NRA standards and legal requirements. Collaboration with range staff and fellow instructors is common to enhance learning experiences and maintain a secure training environment. This hands-on and interactive role is ideal for those passionate about teaching safe and responsible firearm use.
To thrive as an NRA Instructor, you need extensive firearms knowledge, safe handling skills, and official NRA instructor certification. Familiarity with firearms training tools, safety equipment, and NRA course curricula is essential for effective instruction and compliance. Outstanding communication, patience, and the ability to motivate learners are critical soft skills for connecting with students of varying experience levels. These abilities are vital to ensure safe, engaging, and educational training sessions that promote responsible firearm use.

Summary
Welcome to our Maxon Shooter’s Supplies & Indoor Range job posting, we are currently looking to hire more great people for our instructor team right now! We have been a pillar of the firearms community around Chicago since 1953 and we consider it our mission to grow, broaden, and expand OUR community. We want to be THE place to experience the world of shooting sports, and we want your help to make it the best experience possible for every customer! Being the firearms training program coordinator is not just about teaching people how to shoot, although that is one of the primary roles. A big part of instructing is also about encouraging customers to come back! Providing safety focused, patient, and encouraging lessons help create a positive atmosphere for learning and hopefully creates a repeat customer too. As the firearms training program coordinator you will manage the cadre of firearms instructors on staff and the formal classes that Maxon offers. The main reason people come to us is to use our indoor shooting range, so a big part of instruction is helping students find the right firearms and accessories that will work best for them. The personal relationships you form in this community can be very rewarding, so keep on reading if this sounds like a fun and interesting career for you!
