Npi Manager information

What does an NPI manager do?

An NPI (New Product Introduction) Manager oversees the process of bringing new products from concept to market within an organization. They coordinate cross-functional teams, manage timelines, and ensure that product design, manufacturing, and quality standards are met. NPI Managers play a crucial role in risk assessment, process optimization, and communication between engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain departments. Their work ensures that new products are launched efficiently, on time, and within budget.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an NPI manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an NPI (New Product Introduction) Manager, you need expertise in project management, product development processes, and a background in engineering or a related technical field. Familiarity with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems, Six Sigma or PMP certification, and experience with ERP software are typically required. Strong leadership, cross-functional communication, and problem-solving skills help NPI Managers coordinate teams and drive projects to timely completion. These skills and qualifications are vital to successfully launching new products and ensuring efficient transitions from design to manufacturing.

What are some common challenges faced by NPI managers during the product launch phase?

NPI Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating cross-functional teams, managing tight timelines, and ensuring product quality during the launch phase. Aligning engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams requires strong communication and problem-solving skills. Additionally, adapting quickly to changes in design or customer requirements while minimizing delays and cost overruns is a frequent hurdle. Successfully navigating these challenges is key to a smooth and timely product introduction.

Job description

Role Summaryย

As a Senior NPI Technical Program Manager, you will lead the transition of innovative Solid State Transformer systems from design into scalable manufacturing. You'll drive build readiness, validate MBOMs and factory systems, and partner across engineering, supply chain, quality, and operations to ensure smooth, high-quality product launches. This role blends hands-on technical problem solving with cross-functional leadership. You will refine NPI processes, reduce costs, manage risks, and ensure scalability while shaping products that accelerate electrification in critical industries.ย

Responsibilitiesย

  • Lead the end-to-end NPI process, defining and driving the master build schedule (EVT, DVT, PVT, and ramp) with clear entry/exit criteria and alignment across all stakeholders.ย
  • Support engineering and manufacturing development activities by contributing technicalย expertiseย to NPI builds and product readiness.ย
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams - engineering, product development, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, and operations - to achieve program milestones.ย
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations toย finalizeย and confirm MBOM accuracy, ensuring alignment between design, configuration, and factory readiness.ย
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing teams to test and verify factory systems (ERP, MRP, MES) prior to production launch.ย
  • Establish and track key NPI metrics (yield, cycle time, first-pass success, defect rates) to measure readiness and drive improvements.ย
  • Provide clear, consistent communication of build status, risks, and technical updates to technical and non-technical stakeholders.ย
  • Collaborate with Quality teams to develop andย validateย test strategies, reliability plans, and qualification activities, ensuring compliance with internal standards, regulatory bodies, and customer certifications.ย
  • Support change management by coordinating ECOs, configuration control, and ensuring synchronization between design and production systems.ย
  • Drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM/DFA) by creating feedback loops between engineering and production teams.ย
  • Partner with global operations and suppliers to ensure capacity, material readiness, andย logisticsย alignment for high-volumeย ramp.ย
  • Ensure material availability for all build cycles by coordinating with supply chain teams, monitoring quality, and escalating risks.ย
  • Contribute to cost reduction and process improvement initiatives byย identifyingย yield improvement opportunities and collaborating on cost optimization strategies.ย
  • Identifyย and escalate program risks with mitigation plans, while leading cross-functional risk reviews and scenario planning.ย
  • Manage and resolve excess and obsolete (E&O) material issues during early product phases.ย
  • Lead post-mortem reviews and lessons learned after each build or launch, embedding improvements intoย Amperesand'sย NPI framework.ย
  • Mentor junior engineers and program managers in NPI best practices to foster a culture of execution excellence.ย

Qualificationsย

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field.ย
  • 7+ years of experience in engineering roles (manufacturing,ย test, product development, or NPI) with program execution experience in complex product environments.ย
  • Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to drive successful product builds and resolve technical challenges.ย
  • Strong communicationย skills with the ability to clearly document and present technical findings, build status, and risk assessments.ย
  • Experience working with electrical systems, power electronics, or similar hardware products in production settings.ย
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues, adapt to evolving program requirements, and manage multiple tasks in fast-paced environments.ย
  • Familiarity with product qualification and reliability testing processes.ย
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.ย

Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.ย
