Responsibilities

Northwest Specialty Hospital, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, brings expanded services to a new building located at 6225 Sharlands Ave. in Northwest Reno. The facility will offer acute rehabilitation and adult behavioral health services.

Our acute rehabilitation services include occupational, speech, and physical therapy for adults recovering from stroke, injury, or another disabling condition. We offer advanced treatment for a wide range of conditions including stroke, brain injury, amputation, neurological disorders, major multiple traumas and spinal cord and back injuries. All patients will experience private rooms, have access to a newly renovated therapy gym, and personalized care from our qualified staff.

The adult behavioral health services offered is an expansion to our current 50 and older program at NNMC. The new program will offer behavioral health services to all adults 18 years and older. The department is managed through a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, CNAs, social workers, and therapists. Patients will experience an individualized care plan, inclusive of individual and family therapy, activities, medication management, and a 24-hour secure, compassionate environment.

This Float Pool Registered Nurse for the Rehab/Behavioral Health Unit opportunity is per diem and offers a convenient flexible schedule. This dynamic individual will help provide direct and indirect patient care to our patients with compassion and respect. You will communicate with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition.  Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.  Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.  Must be willing to float to the Med/Surg/Tele units. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates supportive behaviors necessary for performing bedside report using IMAP & SBAR (both accomplished in partnership with patient inside room)
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.  This includes pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.  Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.  Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
