Location Info:
Redding offers 300 plus sunny days a year! The area has affordable housing (median housing cost 300K compared to $600 K in CA) and plenty of school options including public, private, charter and faith based. Redding's University Preparatory was ranked top 1% in U.S. News Best High Schools with 79% participation of students taking advance placement courses. College options include community, private, CA State University affiliated classes, and easy access to University of California System. This picturesque area is surrounded by mountains, ski slopes, hiking trails, waterfalls, lakes, and rivers. There is a regional airport, and the coast is only a 2.5-hour drive. Redding is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise offering unlimited activities and a wonderful place to call home.
Redding is truly the "Choose-your-own-adventure" town with two reservoirs just minutes away, the mighty Sacramento River flowing through the center of town, 225 miles of trails within a 15-miles radius, an active musical theater scene, state and national parks, and hunting and fishing opportunities galore. Want to spend the weekend in the city? Sacramento is just over two hours away through easy farmland and the bay area is only about three to four hours from Redding. Want to refresh your spirit by dipping your toes in the ocean? A quick three-hour drive takes you through bigfoot country to the northern CA coast. (Bonus points if you drive about 20 minutes farther to explore Jurassic Park - aka Fern Canyon - or the forest moon of Endor - aka Grizzly Creek SP.)
Everyone loves the idea of moving to California, but let's be honest: it's expensive and packed with people. Give Far Northern California a shot. Redding has everything you love about California, but with a far lower cost of living than in the bay area or southern California. The city of Redding is about the same size as the city of San Francisco, but with about a tenth of the population. Oh, and did I mention 300 days per year of sun and no shoveling snow? You're going to love Redding.
