As a Senior Engineer, you'll be part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals who apply scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions which advance critical supply chain operations while meeting the needs of the business. The scope and accountability at this level is responsible for the quality of a team's work, ensuring that all designs are clear and complete for successful execution. This level can undertake complex design and problem solving without supervision.

In the Supply Chain Technology org, our teams build and maintain systems that sit at the intersection of speed, intelligence, and customer experience-foundational to Nordstrom's company-wide Winning with Speed strategy. We deliver engineering solutions across Supply Chain Planning, Fulfillment Optimization, and Transportation Technology that directly influence hundreds of millions of dollars in annual spend, shape customer promise accuracy, and materially impact EBIT.

  • Champion new techniques (like AI/ML tools and automation) to accelerate development and drive operational intelligence across the organization.
  • Take ownership of systems or designs that span multiple people's work-including forecasting models, fulfillment routing, or transportation optimization-breaking work into smaller tasks for more junior engineers to support.
  • Maintain a high bar for code quality, testing and automation while finding opportunities to continuously improve them.
  • Drive design and code reviews, ensuring the team ships high quality, scalable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Maintain a DevOps mindset, promoting cloud-native solutions while implementing and supporting monitoring, alerting, CI/CD pipelines, and the team's cloud infrastructure.
  • Partner with Data Science and analytics teams to operationalize AI/ML models and advanced analytics in production supply chain environments.
  • Navigate vendor partnerships and platform ecosystems-including third-party WMS, TMS, or planning tools-to maximize business value and integration quality.

  • DevOps & Observability: GitHub Actions, CloudWatch, distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry), feature flags
You own this if you have...
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering or technology roles.
  • 2+ years of experience in retail, supply chain, logistics, fulfillment, or a related domain (preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver complex, distributed systems in a production environment.
  • Hands-on experience architecting event-driven systems and Tier 1 services built for high availability and throughput at scale.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Spring Data) for building production-grade microservices and APIs.
  • Expertise with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, with hands-on experience building high-throughput, low-latency pipelines.
  • Experience building and operating production services on AWS (e.g., Lambda,RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS/SNS) or comparable cloud platforms.
  • Strong technical judgment with experience guiding architecture across scalable, cloud-native services.
  • Experience with supply chain systems such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Order Management Systems (OMS), Last Mile Delivery Systems (LMDS), or Supply Chain Planning platform.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across Product, Operations, and Data Science stakeholders to translate strategy into executable technical solutions.
