Job Description

Title: Bilingual Teacher SY 26/27                   Location: District Wide

Employment Type: Full-Time                       Work Days: 10-Month Position

FLSA: Non-Exempt                                        Reports to: Building Principal

Job Summary:

The Bilingual Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction that supports both English language development and grade-level academic achievement for multilingual learners. The teacher provides direct instruction in the target language and English, collaborates with classroom teachers to implement effective bilingual strategies, and ensures compliance with state and federal requirements for English Learner (EL) programs.

The Bilingual Teacher fosters a culturally responsive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes students' academic, social-emotional, and linguistic growth while supporting equitable access to curriculum and instructional opportunities.

Education, Certification, and Licensure:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Degree in Education, Bilingual Education, Elementary Education, or related field preferred
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required
  • Valid Illinois Bilingual Endorsement required
  • ESL endorsement preferred
  • Completion of an approved teacher preparation program recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
  • Coursework in second-language acquisition, bilingual education, or ESL methods strongly preferred 
  • Master's Degree in Education or related field preferred  

Experience:

  • Prior successful teaching experience in a bilingual or ESL setting preferred
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations
  • Experience developing and implementing differentiated instructional strategies
  • Experience using formative and summative assessments to guide instruction
  • Experience participating in MDT/IEP meetings preferred 
  • Experience integrating language acquisition strategies into core content instruction 

Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction that supports English language development and mastery of grade-level academic standards
  • Deliver bilingual and/or ESL services according to state and federal guidelines, district policies, and student program models (e.g., TBE/TPI)
  • Develop lesson plans incorporating language objectives, content objectives, and WIDA standards
  • Use research-based instructional strategies to support multilingual learners at all proficiency levels
  • Maintain compliance with ISBE requirements for English Learner identification, placement, service minutes, and progress monitoring
  • Create a culturally responsive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and achievement
  • Communicate consistently with families in their preferred language to support academic progress and family involvement
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, interventionists, and support staff to ensure coordinated instruction and services
  • Participate in school wide and districtwide professional development, parent meetings, and staff meetings
  • Utilize instructional technology and digital learning platforms to support student learning
  • Support MTSS processes and intervention planning for multilingual learners
  • Maintain accurate student records and required documentation 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Terms of Employment:

Salary Range:

$50,727-$64,233 Salary is based on CBA Union negotiated terms w/ 10yr credit cap.
