JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Cardiac Device Technician will have in depth knowledge of cardiac rhythm management, cardiac devices, and cardiovascular physiology. With oversight from an Arrhythmia Service Provider, the device technician performs independently in the technical management of implanted Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) devices such as pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and implanted loop recorders. Technical duties include in person and remote CRM device interrogation, evaluation and testing for proper thresholds, sensing and impedance of leads and recognition of alert conditions. The device technician can interpret the data and ensure proper programing. Clinical judgement is required to evaluate patient's symptoms and identify any complications of CRM device therapy. The cardiac device technician performs basic reprogramming of the device based on the analysis done and is prepared to utilize special features to optimize therapy within the scope of the guidelines and under supervision of the Arrhythmia Service Providers. Focus is placed on recognition and correction of problems encountered to optimize device therapy. The Cardiac Device technician will field phone calls and provide patient guidance and education regarding device therapy and remote monitoring. The Cardiac Device Technician will monitor device alerts daily, provide ongoing monitoring and ensure appropriate follow up is offered and provided for patients. The Cardiac Device Technician is responsible for management and analysis of data in the electronic database, maintaining the data integrity with the system. The device technician is responsible for proper documentation of all patient encounters in the EMR and appropriate coding of cardiac device therapy services provided.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science degree in a medical related field and successful completion of a Pacemaker/ICD Technician Program Current and Basic Life Support for healthcare provider's certification. Continued education to keep up to date on device technology and advancements.
EXPERIENCE:
1- 2 years' experience in a direct patient care related position, in Cardiology or equivalent combination of education, on the job training and experience or as a device industry representative. Training and knowledge of implantable cardiac pacemakers and ICD devices.
Remote holiday coverage required.
This is a bargaining union position.
