Job Summary

The goal of this position is to support students in Kindergarten - 3rd grade  in developing reading skills. This role focuses on foundational reading skills through the Science of Reading. The paraprofessional will utilize scripted, evidence-based literacy strategies, under the guidance of coaches, to assess and track student progress.

Role and Responsibilities

1. Conduct small group tutoring sessions with students using scripted, evidence-based literacy strategies provided by the district.
2. Assist children in improving their reading skills and abilities to reach grade level expectations.
3. Assess, with a high level of accuracy, students' continual progress using the designated benchmark  and progress monitoring assessments.
4. Provide complete, accurate, and timely documentation of students' weekly progress scores and strategies using the online database provided by the district.
5. Regularly review student data with coaches to gauge the effectiveness of the literacy strategies being used and determine if a change in strategy is necessary.
6. Prepare lesson plans that reflect best practices in the Science of Reading and are responsive to individual learner profiles.
7. Maintain compliance with all district, state, and federal Title I program requirements and documentation.
8. Communicate regularly with the reading interventionist and classroom teachers on student progress. 
9. Participate in professional development focused on the Science of Reading and other Foundational Reading Skills.
10. Monitor and redirect students during arrival and dismissal times to ensure the safety of all students. 

11. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

1. Successful completion of 60 credit hours or PRAXIS assessment. 
2. Experience working with elementary students.
3. Preferred UFLI experience or LETRS training.

The noise level in the work environment will vary and can range from soft to loud.  Often the noise level in the work environment will be moderate to loud. The employee is required to interact with students, staff, parents/guardians and occasionally with the public. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the requirements of the District and state law.
