Job Description:
LearningObjectives: Science Laboratory Support
1. Laboratory Preparation and Technical Skills
The student will develop the ability to accurately preparelaboratory materials, equipment and supplies for instructional labs in Biology,Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Physics and Microbiology. Outcomes: Prepare lab materials according toinstructor protocols and preparation sheets. Demonstrate proper handling of scientific equipment, specimens andchemicals. Maintain organization andreadiness of teaching laboratories. Follow setup and breakdown procedures efficiently and accurately. Wash glassware. Support timely preparationfor multiple lab sections and disciplines.
2. Laboratory Safety and Compliance
The student will demonstrate understanding and application oflaboratory safety standards and institutional safety procedures. Outcomes: Identify and follow chemical,biological and physical safety protocols. Properly use personal protective equipment such as gloves andgoggles. Demonstrate safe handling anddisposal of chemicals, biological materials, sharps and glassware. Understand emergency procedures, spill responseand incident reporting. Maintaincompliance with laboratory safety requirements.
3. Inventory Management and Organization
The student will develop organizational and inventorymanagement skills necessary for laboratory operations. Outcomes: Organize laboratory storage areasand stockrooms efficiently. Monitorinventory levels and identify low stock items. Assist with labeling, stocking and rotating supplies. Maintain accurate inventory records.Demonstrate proper storage procedures for chemicals, biological materials andequipment. Support end of semester andfiscal year processes.
4. Professionalism and Workplace Readiness
The student will develop transferable professional skills applicableto scientific and technical work environments. Outcomes: Demonstrate reliability, punctuality and accountability. Communicate effectively with faculty, staffand peers. Follow verbal and writteninstructions accurately. Manage timeeffectively while balancing multiple assignments. Maintain confidentiality and professionalismin an academic setting. Workindependently while also functioning as part of a laboratory support team.
