Job description

Description

Are you analytical, detail-oriented, and interested in building a career in finance? Illinois State Credit Union is looking for a Finance & Investment Specialist to join our team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career finance professional who wants exposure to more than one area of the financial world. You'll work alongside experienced leaders while gaining hands-on experience with investments, liquidity management, financial analysis, institutional relationship development, regulatory reporting, market research, and executive-level reporting.

We're looking for someone who enjoys digging into the numbers, keeping complex processes organized, building relationships, and asking, "Is there a better way to do this?"

What You'll Do

As our Finance & Investment Specialist, you'll help manage the recurring research, monitoring, reporting, relationship development, and administrative work that supports the Credit Union's overall financial strategy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support      our investment and liquidity management activities, including      monitoring cash positions, investment opportunities, rates, maturities,      and upcoming liquidity needs.
  • Develop      and maintain an investment ladder to track what is maturing, when      funds will be needed, and opportunities for future investment.
  • Manage      our non-member share certificate portfolio, including tracking rates,      terms, renewals, maturities, and funding relationships.
  • Seek      out and develop relationships with banks, credit unions, financial      professionals, and other institutional funding sources to market our      certificate products and generate new deposit opportunities.
  • Negotiate      rates and terms with institutional depositors with the goal of      attracting and retaining certificate funding at competitive rates while      reducing reliance on third-party brokerage services.
  • Proactively      communicate with existing and prospective institutional partners,      including outreach by phone and email, relationship follow-up, and      presenting available certificate opportunities.
  • Research      investment and certificate opportunities and provide finance      leadership with organized information to support investment decisions.
  • Monitor      financial markets and interest rates, including deposit, certificate,      loan, and investment rate trends.
  • Compile      financial and peer data, including NCUA 5300 Call Report and Financial      Performance Report information, to help leadership understand trends and      compare our performance with peer credit unions.
  • Support      Asset/Liability Management monitoring by maintaining reports and      tracking portfolio concentrations, liquidity, and established limits.
  • Assist      with board and management reporting, including assembling board      packets, financial schedules, charts, and supporting documentation.
  • Research      regulatory and industry developments, including relevant NCUA      releases, economic updates, and financial-market information.
  • Assist      with other finance-related activities such as participation loan      administration, SERP administration, contingency funding documentation,      grant research, policy maintenance, audit and examination requests, and      special projects.

What We're Looking For

You don't need to walk in knowing every aspect of credit union finance. We're looking for someone with a strong foundation, an analytical mindset, confidence communicating with others, and the desire to learn.

What Success Looks Like

You'll become a go-to resource for keeping our investment, liquidity, and recurring finance activities organized, accurate, and moving forward.

You'll help us better anticipate investment maturities and liquidity needs, build a disciplined investment ladder, develop direct institutional funding relationships, identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary brokerage and funding costs, strengthen our financial and peer reporting, and create greater visibility into our financial position.

Most importantly, your work will give our finance leaders better information and more capacity to focus on higher-level strategy and decision-making.

Why Illinois State Credit Union?

This isn't a finance position where you'll spend every day doing the exact same thing.

You'll gain exposure to investments, liquidity, financial analysis, institutional relationship development, negotiation, regulatory reporting, lending portfolios, market research, and executive and board-level reporting-giving you the opportunity to build a broad foundation in financial institution management.

Requirements

  What We're Looking For

You don't need to walk in knowing every aspect of credit union finance. We're looking for someone with a strong foundation, an analytical mindset, confidence communicating with others, and the desire to learn.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor's      degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a      related field preferred.
  • Strong      analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent      attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Confidence      working with numbers, spreadsheets, and financial information.
  • Intermediate      to advanced Microsoft Excel skills-or the motivation to get there quickly.
  • Strong      interpersonal skills and comfort initiating conversations and developing      professional relationships.
  • The      confidence to discuss financial products, negotiate rates and terms, and      follow up on business opportunities.
  • The      ability to research information, identify trends, and turn data into      useful insights.
  • Strong      written and verbal communication skills.
  • The      ability to manage recurring responsibilities and deadlines independently.
  • Sound      judgment when working with confidential financial information.
  • Curiosity,      initiative, and a willingness to ask questions and learn.

 Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel between branch and office locations as needed.

Illinois State Credit Union is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All employment decisions are based on business needs, job requirements, and individual qualifications, without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, or veteran status.  Accommodations may be available upon request.

Previous experience in banking, credit unions, investments, treasury management, accounting, financial analysis, business development, or relationship management is helpful, but early-career candidates and recent finance graduates are encouraged to apply.

You'll work with leaders who value curiosity, development, and new ideas while learning how financial decisions are made inside a credit union.

If you're looking for an opportunity to analyze, build relationships, learn, contribute, and grow your finance career, we'd love to meet you.

Apply today to join Illinois State Credit Union as our next Finance & Investment Specialist.
