Non Profit Data Scientists often work with smaller or less-structured datasets compared to those in the private sector, which can require creative problem-solving and strong data cleaning skills. They frequently collaborate across teams, including program managers and fundraising staff, to interpret data needs and translate insights into actionable recommendations. Balancing resource constraints while delivering impactful analysis is common, but it also provides a rewarding opportunity to directly influence positive social outcomes. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for social impact help data scientists effectively translate complex findings to diverse stakeholders. These qualifications are crucial for leveraging data to support nonprofit missions, optimize programs, and drive evidence-based decision-making.

What is a non profit data scientist?

A Non Profit Data Scientist uses data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning to help nonprofit organizations make informed decisions, measure impact, and optimize programs. They work with diverse datasets, including donor contributions, program outcomes, and demographic information, to derive insights that drive social good. Their responsibilities often include data cleaning, visualization, predictive modeling, and communicating findings to stakeholders. Unlike corporate data science roles, their focus is on mission-driven outcomes rather than profit maximization.

About Dataro

Dataro is an ethically minded SaaS startup using machine learning to help not-for-profits raise more money and do more good. Our platform powers fundraising for organizations across the world, helping them run smarter campaigns and improve donor engagement using data-driven insights.

Why this role exists

We're building out the modeling and data science behind Dataro's US partnerships and our prospect research product. We're looking for a senior data scientist who loves digging into messy, large-scale data: finding the signal, solving the problem, and shipping it. You'll own work end to end, from analysis through to production, with real autonomy and close collaboration with data engineering and product.

This isn't a heads-down modeling role. It's for someone energized by hard data questions who wants their work to ship.

What you'll work on

Partnership models. A distinct set of predictive models, tuned to each partner's customer profile and separate from our core product models. You'll pick it up, iterate and improve on existing models and build new models as partners come on board, and get to the bottom of prediction issues along the way (why does this donor have this score? what in this client's data is throwing the model off?).

Prospect AI. Our best-in-class prospect research tool, used by hundreds of nonprofits today and thousands soon. It uses agentic AI to research and build rich profiles on prospective donors — and the engineering team is driving it to run far faster and cheaper at scale. Your job is the data and quantitative side: solving identity resolution and data quality problems, building out the underlying profile database, and proposing quantitative solutions to large-scale data issues. If you like finding the signal in huge, messy datasets, this is your playground.

What you'll bring

4+ years applied data science or ML experience, including production model deployment

Strong Python and standard ML frameworks

Solid grasp of experimental design, model validation, and statistical methods

A self-starter who takes end-to-end ownership

LLM / generative AI experience — feature development, evaluation, or hybrid approaches

Fundraising, wealth screening, or nonprofit data experience

Familiarity with donor propensity or wealth modelling

AWS or equivalent for deployment and monitoring

What makes this exciting

You'll solve data problems most teams never get to touch, work at real scale, and grow from picking up early models into owning what comes next — with every gain helping nonprofits raise more for the causes they serve.
