Job description

Immersive Retail Handbag Experience | FAO Schwarz | New York City

Compensation: $19/hr plus commission

Union: Non-Union Type

Ongoing Part-Time

Seeking charismatic performers to portray original luxury atelier characters inside an immersive retail experience at the world-famous FAO Schwarz.

This is an interactive, guest-facing performance role where actors remain in character while guiding families and guests through a personalized handbag design experience. Performers improvise with guests, tell stories, celebrate creativity, and create magical moments throughout each interaction.

Unlike traditional stage performance, this role requires balancing theatrical performance, hospitality, improv, and product expertise.

The Experience

Each guest becomes the designer of their own handbag. Performers guide them through selecting materials, accessories, and embellishments before assembling their creation and presenting it during a celebratory finale. Every performance is unique because every guest becomes part of the story.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as an original atelier character throughout each guest interaction.
  • Improvise naturally with children and adults.
  • Create joyful, memorable moments through storytelling and conversation.
  • Guide guests through creative design decisions.
  • Assemble customized handbags with precision.
  • Maintain character while adapting to guest personalities and pacing.
  • Deliver exceptional hospitality and premium guest service.
  • Use established selling techniques to generate strong sales in the department.

Ideal Candidates

We're looking for performers who have experience in:

  • Interactive theatre
  • Children's theatre
  • Theme parks
  • Character performance
  • Immersive entertainment
  • Cruise entertainment
  • Hospitality performance
  • Comedy or improv
  • Retail experience is welcome but not required

We're Especially Interested In:

  • Strong improvisational ability
  • Excellent people skills
  • Warm, energetic personalities
  • Confident vocal presence
  • Ability to create emotional connections quickly
  • Comfortable engaging guests of all ages
