Summary
Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! Our Elevator Support Unit (ESU) is currently looking for a Non-Destructive Testing Level II Technician. In this role, you will be working closely with our skilled trades team in overseeing operational testing and inspections. You will play a key role in the over-all quality of removing, upgrading and installing equipment and structures for fleet modernization alterations and installations. You will travel to various shipyards and military bases in order to complete contracted work as required. This is a full-time position, located in Chesapeake, VA.
*This role is contingent upon being awarded the contract.
What You Will Do
  • Display levels of Quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement and performance consistent with companie values.
  • Preform Non Destructive Testing (VT/PT/MT) of in process and completed work.
  • Develope and implement program quality testing and inspection plans and quality assurance works in accordance with the Joint Fleet Mainteneacne Manual, NAVSEA Alterations to Ships Manual (TS9090-310) and NAVSEA Standard Items along with various company procedures.
  • Audit work-in-process to determine if product specifications are met, and ensure conformance to established company and regulatory standards.
  • Develope and use technical work documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task trip reports.
  • Review, Analyze and report on quality discrepencies and data related to production.
  • Investigate problems and develop disposition and corrective actions for recurring discrepencies.
  • Interface with stakeholders to ensure requirements are met. Recommend Corrective actions, dispositions, process optimazations and modification.
  • May work directly with customer or customers representatives, attend meetings and deploy for special projects.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and technical support at customer and/or field locations.
  • Analyze and evaluate products and related performance.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate future problems.
  • May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.

What You Must Have
  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
  • Must have a minimum of 8 years experience in the NDT Field and previous proof of certifications in each method. MT is perferred but not required.
  • Must have previously held NDT Level II certification in VT and PT. Must also be able to obtain and maintain active NDT Level II certifications in VT and PT.
  • Must have experience inspecting the installation of several system components and structures.
  • Must have experience with U.S. Navy Shipboard Piping Systems and components.
  • Must be familiar with the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual, Ships Alteration and installation Manual TS9090-310 and NAVSEA Standard Items.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be able to obtain a DOD Secrect Security Clearence and maintian a clearence level throughout employment.
  • Must be able to obtain Base access credentials within 60 days of start date, and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Must be able to travel between 15%-25% when not assigned to local tasking.

  • Experience with Navsea Standard Items.
  • Experience with Shipboard Elevator Systems.
  • A current or active DoD Security Clearance.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards,under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
