The Role

Tests and inspects products at Receiving; compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Carry out inspection and test activities in accordance with established quality plans, engineering specifications, and procedures in order to verify that the specified requirements for the product have been met.
  • Review Material Test Reports (MTR’s) for compliance to Code and customer specifications.
  • Perform dimensional and visual inspection and/or testing of incoming materials and products to determine compliance.
  • Record the results, which provide evidence that the product has been inspected and/or tested (records should show clearly whether the product has passed or failed in accordance with established criteria).
  • The Inspector is required to handle any nonconforming product in accordance with established work instructions and other quality system procedures.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Engineering drawings and Customer specifications.
  • Must have working knowledge of all industry welding codes and standards including American Society of Mechanical Engineering, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII.
  • Working knowledge of Nondestructive Examinations, Heat Treating, Paint and Protective Coatings.
  • Must be able to use a variety of precision and non-precision inspection and test equipment.
  • Inspector is expected to interface with Manufacturing, Purchasing and Engineering personnel and provide support, if necessary in interpreting and defining product quality criteria.
  • This position may also require operating overhead crane and forklift.
  • Regular attendance, ability to arrive at work punctually, ability to work on–site, ability to work overtime.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, ability to deal respectfully with the public, customers, vendors, other employees, managers, and executive management.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to interchange with others in the department.

COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS (knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)

  • High school diploma or GED. Experience with calibration of inspection and test equipment preferred Experience in an ISO 9001 environment preferred. Experience with Positive Material Identification (PMI).
  • Non Destructive Testing Certification preferred. Experience with PMI and UT thickness testing preferred. Forklift experience as well.
