Job description

Video Remote Medical Interpreter

The Video Remote Medical Interpreter serves as a communication bridge between patients and healthcare professionals. This role provides accurate, culturally appropriate interpretation through video remote interpretation for individuals who are non-English speaking, deaf, or hard of hearing, ensuring understanding of medical information, treatment plans, and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time video remote interpretation between patients, families, and healthcare providers in the patient's preferred language
  • Accurately interpret medical terminology, including anatomy, procedures, and medications
  • Support effective communication in both clinical and non-clinical settings
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with all patient privacy policies
  • Assist with translation of written documents, as needed
  • Act as a trusted cultural and linguistic resource for care teams

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a medical interpreter competency assessment (to be administered by UCHealth)
  • Completion of 40-hour medical interpreter training program (e.g. "Bridging the Gap")
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical interpretation experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Video Remote Interpretation experience
  • Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) or Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) credential

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong bilingual communication skills and fluency in medical terminology
  • Proficiency in basic computer and technology use
  • Ability to exercise critical thinking and sound judgment in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to equity, cultural sensitivity, and patient advocacy

Work Environment:

  • The work involves providing medical interpretation to patients and care teams via video teleconferencing. It is not in-person within hospitals and clinics.
  • 100% In-office environment
  • Fast-paced clinical setting requiring adaptability and responsiveness
