What is a Non CDL Drive Away?

A Non CDL Drive Away job involves transporting vehicles from one location to another without requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Drivers typically move new, used, or rental vehicles for dealerships, manufacturers, or fleet companies. Since the vehicles are often under a certain weight limit, a CDL is not necessary, making this a good entry-level position for those interested in driving-related work. Responsibilities may include inspecting vehicles before and after transport, following delivery schedules, and adhering to safety regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Non CDL Drive Away driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Non CDL Drive Away driver, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and familiarity with various vehicle types. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, route planning apps, and basic vehicle inspection tools is typically required. Strong time management, reliability, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this position. These skills ensure timely, safe, and efficient vehicle deliveries, which are critical for customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

What are some common challenges faced by Non CDL Drive Away drivers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Non CDL Drive Away drivers often encounter challenges such as adapting to different vehicle types, managing long hours on the road, and coordinating pickups and drop-offs across varying locations. Building good time management and organizational skills is crucial, as is staying up-to-date on regulations and safety requirements for each assignment.

  • Use mobile apps, dispatch technology, and GPS navigation for communication, vehicle assignments, and safety checks
  • Maintain a safety-first mindset and follow all driving regulations at all times
  • Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with dispatchers and customers regarding vehicle status, delivery schedules, and handoffs

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (minimum 5 years’ safe driving experience)
  • Must be 24 years of age or older
  • Ability to drive cars, trucks, and other vehicles for up to 11 hours per day and work shifts up to 14 hours
  • Physically capable of working in large parking lots, including walking, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, and stooping to perform vehicle inspections
  • Must be able to enter and exit vehicles of varying sizes and heights throughout the day
  • Strong attention to detail when inspecting vehicles, checking VIN numbers, and documenting condition reports
  • Safety vest must be worn at all times on company and customer property (safety-first environment)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test (includes marijuana/THC) and background check

Compensation amp; Benefits:

  • Competitive Weekly Pay: $700 - $900+ per week
  • Weekly Pay with Direct Deposit, after initial 2 week delay
  • Commission-Based: Drivers earn 50% of the weekly revenue generated from assigned vehicles
  • Shifts: Full-time, 5 day work weeks
  • Health Insurance available after 60 days for full-time employees
