Job description

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build a new class of hardware engineering application: an interactive workspace where the decisions behind complex physical systems can be reviewed, challenged, resolved, and preserved. Today, when a mechanical engineer needs feedback on a design, that context is fragmented across disconnected tools - email threads, screenshots, tribal knowledge - and detached from the model itself. We're bringing the artifacts and the decision workflow together, so engineers can catch problems before designs are fabricated or released, and move forward knowing the right people have weighed in and agree.
This is a new team, standing up inside Forge, Anduril's platform for building the software that runs the company. We build on Forge's shared foundations rather than reinventing them, which lets us stay focused on the hard, domain-specific problems: the interactive 3D/CAD experience, the geometry, and the review workflows that mechanical engineers and designers rely on. You'll help define how a domain-rich product like ours plugs into the platform - working alongside the platform team and the other domain teams building on Forge - and establish patterns that make the products that follow us easier to build.
You'll set technical direction across interactive web experiences, 3D visualization, CAD, geometry processing, and the workflow and data models underneath them. You'll turn ambiguous customer problems into durable architecture and work directly with hardware engineers on a tool where software accuracy has tangible, real-world consequences - on problems at the intersection of graphics, geometry, product engineering, and platform architecture.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Design and build the review, annotation, and revision workflow for CAD models - from 3D/CAD rendering and geometry handling in the browser to the data models that capture decisions and their history.
  • Set technical direction across the stack: interactive web experiences, 3D visualization, client- and server-side rendering, native compute pipelines, and large-file performance.
  • Work directly with mechanical engineers and designers to turn manufacturing-intent feedback and design-review workflows into software they rely on daily.
  • Reliably and performantly process large, complex, and often untrusted CAD and geometry files.
  • Help define how a domain-rich product builds on and extends the platform, and establish patterns other domain teams can reuse.
  • Lead investigations that cross browser, native, and platform boundaries, and take the product from pilot capability to a trusted production service.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years building and operating complex production software, including leading ambiguous technical initiatives.
  • Deep proficiency with TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
  • Strong experience with API design, data modeling, and asynchronous processing.
  • Experience building and debugging performance-sensitive interactive applications involving spatial, layered, connectivity-rich, 2D, or 3D data.
  • Experience partnering directly with technical customers and translating domain-specific workflows into effective software.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerized deployments, authentication, authorization, and production observability.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, first-principles reasoning, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • U.S. Person status is required, as this role accesses export-controlled data.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience building interactive graphics using Three.js, WebGL/OpenGL, Canvas/SVG, game engines, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with CAD/EDA platforms, geometry kernels (e.g., Open Cascade, Parasolid, ACIS), or engineering-data parsers.
  • Familiarity with geometric or connectivity-rich data models - B-rep and meshes, tessellation, scene graphs, spatial acceleration structures.
  • Strong foundation in 3D graphics: coordinate transforms, cameras and projection, raycasting, and geometry selection.
  • Familiarity with formats such as STEP/AP242, glTF/GLB, Gerber/Excellon, ODB++, or comparable engineering formats.
  • Experience integrating C++ or Python processing components into production web systems.
  • Experience processing large or untrusted files using workers, queues, object storage, sandboxing, and resource controls.
  • Experience in one or more domains such as MCAD/CAE, ECAD/PCB, harness/EWIS, manufacturing, PLM, simulation, or robotics.
  • Experience architecting and building new applications from the ground up, including technical design and scaling considerations.
