Position Description
The Pacific Northwest's premier steel fabricator, Thompson Metal Fab, Inc., is in immediate need of skilled and experienced Fitters / Fabricators / Welders. Serving the Civil, Hydro, Oil & Gas, and custom fabrication industries. We are an AISC, API, ASME, and WABO certified facility. With over 85 years in the industry, we have a reputation for producing some of the highest quality fabricated products on the West Coast.

This position is primarily fitting, but welding experience is necessary. Previous experience as a fitter will be prioritized. This position is available for Day shift 6:30AM-3:00PM Mon-Fri, with optional overtime opportunities.
Competitive wages start ranging between $34.48 and $39.44 an hour.
**All employees must pass a pre-employment drug screen and pre-employment physical.**
Responsibilities:
    • Lay out, position, fit, and weld structural components including plates, beams, and assemblies according to fabrication drawings.
    • Perform full layout and fitting of structural assemblies from blueprints and welding symbols.
    • Verify layouts through quality checks and coordinate with welders to complete projects accurately.
    • Read and interpret shop drawings, welding procedures, and project specifications.
    • Work closely with project leads, foremen, and team members to ensure proper welding procedures and materials are used.
    • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with drawings and quality standards.
    • Set up safety equipment and elevated work platforms as required.
    • Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
    • Contribute to process improvements that increase efficiency and productivity.
    • Assist with additional fabrication and shop duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience with FCAW and/or GMAW welding.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience welding carbon steel.
    • Ability to read and interpret welding symbols and fabrication drawings.
    • Experience fitting and assembling structural steel components.
    • Working knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
    • AWS D1.1, D1.5, and/or D1.8 certifications or equivalent experience.
    • Experience with Carbon Arc Gouging.
    • Familiarity with FCAW, GMAW-MC, SAW, and SMAW welding processes.
    • Experience welding in flat, vertical, overhead, and 6G positions.
    • Experience with heavy plate fabrication and bridge construction.
    • Ability to perform CJP welds subject to ultrasonic and radiographic testing.
    • Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and aerial work platforms.
