What is a no experience video editor?

A No Experience Video Editor is someone who is new to video editing and typically has little or no professional experience in the field. These individuals may be self-taught or just starting to learn how to use video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve. No Experience Video Editors often seek entry-level positions, internships, or freelance opportunities to build their skills and portfolios. They may start with simple editing tasks like cutting clips, adding basic transitions, and adjusting audio, gradually taking on more complex projects as they gain experience.

What types of projects can no experience video editors expect to work on, and how do these contribute to skill development?

As a no-experience video editor, you’ll typically start with simpler projects such as trimming clips, adding basic transitions, syncing audio, inserting subtitles, or editing short social media videos. These tasks help you become proficient with editing software and understand storytelling basics. Over time, as you build confidence and technical skills, you may be assigned more complex projects like promotional videos, event highlights, or assisting on larger productions. Collaborating closely with more experienced editors and receiving feedback is common, which accelerates your learning and prepares you for more advanced responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a no experience video editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a No Experience Video Editor, you need a basic understanding of video editing principles, visual storytelling, and a willingness to learn, with no formal qualifications typically required. Familiarity with entry-level editing software like iMovie, DaVinci Resolve, or Adobe Premiere Rush is helpful, and online tutorials or beginner certifications can accelerate learning. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to take feedback are essential soft skills that set you apart in this role. These skills and qualities are important because they enable you to create engaging content, grow quickly in technical ability, and collaborate effectively with clients or team members.

Job description

Brand Apart is looking for a Senior Creative Video Editor to join our growing team. This role is for someone developed well beyond the fundamentals of editing — you know the rules of storytelling, and you know when to break them. Your cuts are intuitive, you have a unique creative perspective, and you're able to understand and abide by the brand guidelines of our clients. Our editors see an edit through from beginning to end, partnering closely with producers, occasionally interfacing with clients, and collaborating with outside post-production contractors. Above all, we're looking for a great team player who is self-motivated and leverages their skillset for the sake of the team.
_Primary Purpose
The Senior Creative Video Editor's primary responsibility is to deliver exceptional, story-rich edits across Brand Apart's diverse range of video projects — from human interest stories and brand anthems to conference openers, event recaps, music videos, and more.
_Responsibilities
_ Reports to the Head of Post Production and collaborates closely with producers, clients, and outside post-production contractors.
_ Edits projects with proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, applying strong story structure, pacing, and emotional tone to every cut.
_ Handles color correction, audio mixing, and sound design; familiar with Illustrator, Audition, and similar tools to support the edit.
_ Contributes to creative direction and concepting across assigned projects.
_ Interfaces with client and team feedback, managing revisions with clarity and quality.
_ Manages and organizes large amounts of media, including file management, uploading, and long-term archival.
_ Available to be on set for local shoots to assist with edit notes and occasional data transfer.
_ Maintains flexibility in edit workflow — Brand Apart uses a combination of local storage, shared storage, and remote editing environments.
_Requirements
_ Proven editorial experience with a comprehensive skillset across story structure, pacing, color, audio, and finishing.
_ Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects; familiarity with Illustrator, Audition, and related tools.
_ Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
_ Experience with Mac workstations and collaborative file management workflows.
_ Strong communicator — great and timely with both internal teams and client-facing feedback.
_ Available to travel approximately 10% of the time for event and experience work.
_Attributes of a Successful Candidate
_ Works well under pressure and can manage a high project load while maintaining creative quality and meeting deadlines.
_ Brings a self-starter mentality balanced with a collaborative, supportive approach to teamwork.
_ Actively shares new editing techniques, style inspiration, and reference visuals to elevate the Video Team.
_ Seasoned enough to catch on quickly to client needs and vision — and to take that vision further than expected.
_ Brings high standards of creativity and excellence to every project, regardless of size or format.
_Culture
We know culture drives everything which is why we intentionally invest in our people and strive to create a workplace that is inspiring, incorporates diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and is always rooted in care. Our compensation is competitive. Benefits include 401k, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, generous paid time off, and professional development.
_Location & Work Environment
This role is based in Atlanta, GA, and follows a hybrid work model that combines in-office collaboration with remote flexibility. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to the Atlanta area and able to attend in-person workdays as required by our hybrid office policy.
