1:1 Part-Time Support Staff Needed - Cicero, NY (DN- SL)
A 56-year-old man living in the Cicero area is looking for a direct support professional to assist him with pursuing his hobbies, providing support while navigating his community, and supporting his needs while out of the home.
He has many different interests and loves to spend time out in his community. He frequently attends Syracuse University football, basketball, and Lacrosse games that he would like support from his DSP. He enjoys meals at various restaurants in the area and likes to watch movies at Destiny. This person is someone who always has a smile on his face and enjoys connecting with others.
This candidate should be caring, patient, and comfortable with providing some personal care (wiping his face when eating) The individual uses a power wheelchair independently but there are times when he needs assistance maneuvering his chair if he gets stuck or if the chair is malfunctioning. The candidate should be able to physically assist the individual with pushing his chair if needed. The individual will not be in the DSP's personal vehicle. The DSP should be able to meet the individual at the agreed upon location where his IRA staff will drop him off for services and then pick him up at the agreed upon time. DSP must be comfortable with cutting the individual's food into ¼ inch pieces. DSP will receive Choking two training and additional review from supervisor.
This is a part-time position, but additional hours are available with other people receiving services.

Starting pay is $19.25/hour and increases with years of relevant experience.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to work independently in the person's home and/or community.
  • Reliable with effective communication and organizational skills
  • No experience required but experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
  • New York State Driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance is required; acceptable driving record required.
  • Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community.
