Job description

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Since 1985, Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless has dedicated its mission exclusively to providing services to people experiencing homelessness. AHCH provides a distinctive continuum of integrated care through outreach and site-based services to address the health-related causes and consequences of homelessness. Our vision is to live in a world that is just and without homelessness. We believe that homelessness is an issue that can be solved through access to quality health care, adequate and affordable housing, and a living wage.

We are currently looking for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about working with our clients. Our ideal candidate will be adept in psychiatric care, related pharmaceuticals, and substance use disorder treatment.

Our treatment model is integrated with other departments and agencies and the candidate would need to be a strong team player. We believe that there are many pieces to a person's wellbeing and we need a candidate with this holistic approach. The candidate would need to be comfortable in the clinic as well as treating in part of our mobile teams; we have a treat first model that incorporates onsite treatment in outreach settings. Our ideal candidate would have working knowledge of harm reduction philosophies and would be able to embody these ideas with clients.

Compassion for and an understanding of the wide variety of issues for those experiencing homelessness is a must. Trauma is an underlying issue with most of our clients and we need a candidate that has a working knowledge of trauma informed care. Our clinic operates in a shared client model so the candidate would be comfortable sharing clients with multiple practitioners.

We have walk in hours as well as scheduled appointment times for clients. We have no on call hours. Our team is very passionate about public health and our population. If you would like to join a dynamic team, we invite you to apply!

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with other disciplines toward integrative approaches to patient psychiatric care
  • Provide psychiatric care to those experiencing homelessness both at the clinic site and through outreach locations in the Bernalillo County service area
  • Serve as a cross-department clinical psychiatric resource for AHCH staff
  • Collaborate with other staff in treatment planning
  • Participate in planning, case review and quality assurance activities
  • Participate in peer review process
  • Maintain standards of psychiatric care according to established protocols
  • Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications as needed to AHCH patients
  • Will work closely with primary care and behavioral health providers on clients with psychiatric issues
  • Ensure timely documentation of services in EHR in compliance with AHCH standard
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to thrive in a complex healthcare setting
  • Have a strong desire to work in an integrated/cross-disciplinary team model
  • Experience documenting services in an EHR
  • Graduated with MSN or DNP from accredited program
  • Licensed APRN-CNP or PMHNP-BC
  • DEA and CSR license
  • Experience providing psychiatric care in a medical/clinical setting
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 or more years providing psychiatric care in a medical/clinical setting
  • Previous experience with outreach/street medicine
  • Clinical experience with underserved populations, those with SMI/CMI, and substance abuse disorder
  • Previous experience working in a FQHC
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
