Job description

Level 1 Machine Operator
Machine Operator I sets up and operates a production machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Uses computer-controlled equipment to select, position and secure automatic or semi-automatic machines. Being a Machine Operator I controls and adjusts machine settings to complete simple tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. Additionally, Machine Operator I typically reports to a supervisor/manager. The Machine Operator I works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. May require 0-1 year of general work experience.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area
  • Able to conduct hands on training for new employees
  • Proficiently complete all production and quality documentation, CRN, ASME, etc.
  • Maintain acceptable production rates within the skill level, by meeting or exceeding efficiency goals.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure materials, parts and workmanship are compliant with engineering requirements and production expectations using the following:
    • Engineering Prints
    • Tape Measurer
    • Protractor
    • Thickness Gauge Wheel
  • Maintain acceptable production rates within the skill level, by meeting or exceeding efficiency goalsMake sure that all edges are deburred and edge treatment applied if necessary (ZRC)
  • Contribute to Lean and 5s Implemented in your areas.
  • Must be a self-starter that can work without supervision.

  • Safe operation of all overhead lifting cranes and jib booms
  • Assist in other areas of the shop when required
  • Mentor lessor experienced mechanics - leading by example

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Basic shop math (i.e. add/subtract/divide/multiply, whole numbers and fractions)
  • Read a tape measure to within 1/16"
  • A General understanding of common hand tools is preferred.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must have completed all requirements of the Level 1 Shake and Brake/Brake Assistant
  • Able to read and understand all engineering prints related to the process
  • Able to trouble shoot and solve problems related to the process

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Manufacturing environment
  • Continuous standing, squatting, bending, pulling, and lifting throughout the workday
  • Lift/Carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Wear PPE when required - Manufacturing Areas
  • Climb and work off of ladders
  • Shift work, days or evenings, Monday through Friday and some Saturday's.
  • Willingness to work any shift including weekends for training purposes and or production requirements.
