Job description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education – associate's degree in health information administration or medical technology is required. Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in health information management, Health Informatics, or a related field preferred.

Experience – Minimum of 1 year of experience in health information management or a related role, with experience in a supervisory or managerial position.

Licenses & Certification – Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) is required.

Knowledge & Skills –

  1. In-depth knowledge of health information systems, data management, and regulatory requirements Advanced knowledge of assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT Codes.

  2. Strong understanding of EHR systems and healthcare data security.

  3. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  4. Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and manage multiple priorities effectively.

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to assist the HIM Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring accurate and secure storage of patient data, and supporting clinical, operational, and administrative functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a business office environment. There is moderate risk of exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested and required. Travel and overtime may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires the demands of normal office work in business office or within a health information office as described in the work environment section above. Light lifting may be required to move files and materials to various areas of the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

  1. Must adhere to all policies set by the MCNDH.

  2. Assist in managing electronic health records (EHRs), clinical data, and other vital patient information.

  3. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and security of patient information.

  4. Assist in the Oversee of collection, storage, and retrieval of medical data, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.

  5. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and other relevant laws.

  6. Act as a liaison between clinical, operational, and administrative functions within the healthcare facility.

  7. Supervise and provide support to HIM staff members, including training and mentoring.

  8. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the HIM department.

  9. Collaborate with Revenue Cycle and IT departments to troubleshoot issues and ensure system functionality.

  10. Assist with data analysis, reporting, and research related to patient data.

  11. Assist patients and healthcare providers with access to and management of health records.

  12. Address inquiries and resolve issues related to health information management.
