Position Title: Staff Engineer (Geotechnical amp; Construction Materials Testing)
Location: Atlanta, GA
Work Setting (Remote/ Hybrid/ On-site): On-site
POSITION SUMMARY
2MNEXT is seeking a motivated Staff Engineer to support both our Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) teams. This role offers a balanced mix of field and office work and is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to gain hands-on experience in subsurface investigations, engineering analysis, and construction-phase services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist with planning and performing subsurface explorations, including soil borings, test pits, and in-situ testing
  • Log soil and rock samples in accordance with USCS and document field conditions
  • Review and interpret laboratory and field data (e.g., classification, compaction, CBR, shear strength)
  • Perform basic geotechnical analyses such as bearing capacity, settlement, and pavement evaluations under supervision
  • Support preparation of geotechnical reports with recommendations for foundations, earthwork, and site development
  • Coordinate with drilling subcontractors and testing laboratories
  • Perform and/or oversee construction materials testing, including soil density, concrete sampling, and asphalt testing
  • Prepare daily field reports and assist with final documentation and deliverables
  • Communicate with project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure quality and schedule compliance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (geotechnical emphasis preferred)
  • EIT certification or actively pursuing licensure
  • Familiarity with ASTM standards, USCS classification, and basic geotechnical principles
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work both in field environments and office settings
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
  • Internship or prior experience in geotechnical engineering or CMT
  • Experience with field testing equipment (e.g., nuclear gauge, DCP)
  • Familiarity with geotechnical or engineering software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position entails approximately 80% field/lab work and 20% office with occasional travel.
