Job Title: Adjunct Instructor of Computer Science
Reporting Structure: The Department of Natural Sciences in the College of Science, Engineering and Mathematics
Division: Department of Computer Science and Engineering
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Successful candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate level, establish and sustain an outstanding research program and be involved in proposal and grant writing activities.
• Preferred candidates for the position must hold a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science. Desired areas of interest are artificial intelligence, machine learning, and mobile applications development.
• Faculty members should expect to be involved in department activities, student advisement, student recruitment, and mentoring students.
Education and Experience:
• BS in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or closely related field and extensive related work experience or professional certifications (full Stack, CompTIA, CCNA, etc.). Degree must be from a regionally accredited institution.
• Applicants should have a strong commitment to teaching at a liberal arts school. Evidence of successful teaching at the college level is required.
• The candidate must be prepared to affirm and support the Christian and liberal arts mission of Bethune- Cookman University.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:
• MS or PhD in computer science. Preference will be given to applicants with areas of specialization that complement existing faculty.
• A record of research and publication is desirable.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while teaching classes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in person and through electronic communication.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, projector, and other instructional technology for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to move throughout classrooms, offices, and campus facilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry instructional materials, books, or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment, including computers, printers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read printed materials, computer screens, and classroom presentations.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.
