Job description

Histology Technician Job Duties:
Responsible for the processing of histology and cytology specimens and maintaining all necessary records - including instrument maintenance and reagent recycling.
  • Preparation/ processing of histology and cytology specimens according to established procedures.
  • Analysis of quality control material for each procedure with values being recorded on the appropriate log sheets or in the laboratory computer system. Results failing must be investigated and reported to the pathologist and the lab manager as necessary.
  • Review of maintenance on instrumentation in the assigned work area according to maintenance schedules and procedures, with actions being entered into the respective log.
  • Transcription of patient information and entry into the laboratory information system, according to laboratory procedures.
  • Receive faxed orders from licensed independent practitioners for orders that are specific to the services provided by their department.

Histology Technician Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Certification as a Histology Technician is preferred, if certified no experience required.
  • If not certified, minimum of 2 years' experience is preferred
  • Ability to read, write, hear, speak, and comprehend the English language.
  • Special ability is required to perceive 3-D and geometric relationships when cutting paraffin block and making embedding molds.
  • Manual dexterity is required to manipulate the micro thin tissue sections and to mound and apply cover slips.

Salary Range: Up to $39.50/hr (based on experience)
  • Evening and night shift differential available
