Position Summary

McCall-Thomas Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Drafter responsible for providing technical support of moderate complexity and the capability to understand and develop single line diagrams and system single line diagrams and basic designs for transmission, distribution, industrial, and generating station facilities, including any related drawings, material requests, construction contracts, specifications and project documentation. 

Essential Job Tasks:

  • PROJECTS
    • Creates engineering drawings to convey the design of generation, transmission, distribution and industrial facilities. This will include revising existing drawings as well as creating new drawings using available CAD software.
    • Prepares purchase requisitions and material requests to acquire substation and construction equipment.
    • Assists in the preparation of specifications to ensure that ordered equipment be manufactured in accordance with its intended use.
    • Assists in creating preliminary designs, scopes, and estimates for projects. 
  • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
    • Assists in researching, investigating and evaluating new technological applications and materials to be used for the design of substations including improvements to processes, safety and cost effectiveness.
    • Works with office and field personnel to become more familiar with substation equipment and construction.
  • STANDARDS
    • Updates specifications, figures, and the standard material catalog. This includes participating in review meetings, assisting team members, interfacing with vendors, routing, making corrections, and following the Standards Procedure.
    • All records in Oracle, iPort, and ECM need to be maintained and accurate.
    • Maintains contact with vendors to keep abreast of new designs and technologies.
    • Coordinates with unit members on designs and use of standards.
    • Checks drawings for accuracy and standardization.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's Degree +1 year  Electric Utility CAD experience or 
  • Associate's Degree +3 years Electric Utility CAD experience or
  • High School Diploma/GED +5 years Electric Utility CAD experience required
  • valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • eligibility to work in the US without any form of sponsorship
  • clear drug screen and background check results
  • Experience needed in site-based civil CAD projects, structural steel CAD detailing & structures work, single lines and AC/DC elementary diagrams 
  • MicroStation experience required
  • Experience using a model file or XREF file within the CAD file for site-based projects
