Job description

Laborer 

SUMMARY 

Mortenson is currently seeking a Structured Cabling Logistics Laborer that will be responsible for safely assisting Cabling Technicians on hyperscale data center projects.  Duties include material handling, installation, assembling and dismantling of low voltage carrier systems, preparing work areas, and cleaning of workspaces. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist with installation of structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and copper cabling 
  • Support low voltage installation tasks such as cable pulling, routing, labeling, and basic terminations 

  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit utilizing various hand tools 

  • Safely utilize hand and power tools after proper training (drills, crimpers, cutters, etc.) 

  • Lift, position, and fasten objects as required for installation support 

  • Operate the following equipment based on the requirements of the project: 

    • Bobcat/Skid-steer 

    • Forklift/Telehandler 

    • Boom Lifts/Aerial Lifts 

  • Prepare, handle, stage, and supply materials and tools to support electrical and cabling trades 

  • Coordinate material deliveries and maintain organized material storage areas 

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, tools, and equipment 

  • Assist with assembling and dismantling low voltage carrier systems 

  • Follow all safety procedures and work under immediate supervision according to standard instructions and established procedures 

  • Effectively work and build relationships with team members of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels 

  • Support general labor duties as needed to maintain project flow 

  • Perform all other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Relevant experience preferred 
  • Graduation from apprenticeship program preferred 

  • Current driver's license 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operation and maintenance instructions, blueprints and schematic drawings, and procedure manuals; ability to work with tools, such as power and non-powered hand tools 

  • Willing and able to follow instructions and ask clarifying questions; ability to handle materials that can weigh up to 100 lbs; strong teamwork orientation; positive attitude and professional customer service skills 

  • Detail oriented; active listening skills and effective communication including openness to diverse input and feedback 

  • Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements 

  • *Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs.
