No Experience Associate information

What is a no experience associate?

No Experience Associate jobs are entry-level positions designed for individuals who may not have prior professional work experience. These roles typically provide on-the-job training and are meant to help new employees learn essential skills and gain experience in a particular industry or company. They are ideal for recent graduates, career changers, or anyone entering the workforce for the first time. Responsibilities often include basic tasks, assisting more experienced staff, and learning company procedures. Employers usually look for candidates with a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic rather than specific prior experience.

What key skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a no experience associate?

To thrive as a No Experience Associate, employers typically look for a high school diploma or equivalent, basic computer literacy, and a willingness to learn on the job. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, email platforms, or basic office software may be helpful but is often taught during onboarding. Strong work ethic, communication skills, and a positive attitude help candidates stand out in entry-level roles. These qualities enable individuals to quickly adapt, effectively support team goals, and deliver satisfactory customer or client experiences.

What opportunities for skill development are available to no experience associates within the company?

No Experience Associates often benefit from structured onboarding programs and ongoing training designed to help them build foundational skills relevant to their roles. Many companies offer mentorship, online courses, and shadowing opportunities to accelerate learning and ensure new associates are comfortable with daily responsibilities. Regular feedback sessions and cross-team collaboration also help associates grow professionally and prepare for advancement into more specialized or senior positions.

Job description

Be part of an amazing story

Macy’s is more than just a store. We’re a story. One that’s captured the hearts and minds of America for more than 160 years. A story about innovations and traditions…about inspiring stores and irresistible products…about the excitement of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and the wonder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We’ve been part of memorable moments and milestones for countless customers and colleagues. Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.

Job Overview

As a Customer Experience Colleague, you will create exceptional, personalized shopping experiences for our customers. You’ll prioritize customer satisfaction by actively engaging with shoppers across all touchpoints - both in-store and online - and drive cross-category sales to support overall business goals. With a deep understanding of fashion, fit, and function, you will make tailored product recommendations and leverage digital tools to enhance the customer journey. You also will work across different departments daily, often transitioning between multiple areas throughout the day.

In this role, you’ll also play a key part in client relationship building through outreach tools like My Client and social media. Your collaborative approach with peers, store leaders, and brand partners will help identify opportunities, resolve challenges, and elevate the overall customer experience. In addition to service and selling, you’ll support operational excellence through floor readiness, event execution, merchandise setup, and opening/closing procedures.

A positive, can-do attitude, strong communication skills, and a passion for delivering high-caliber service will be key to your success in this role.

How our Selling Colleagues spend their day…

  • Our colleagues begin each day energized and ready to make an impact. They wear their name badge with pride, greet teammates with a warm hello, and help ensure the sales floor is clean, organized, and prepared for customers. Before getting started, they review their sales goals, learn about new arrivals and top-selling items, and stay up to date on current trends and promotions - so they’re fully informed and ready to engage, educate, and sell with confidence.
  • On the floor, they focus on the customer - offering a warm welcome, making eye contact, and creating friendly, personal conversations to create customer relationships to bring the customers back.
  • Throughout the day, they maintain a shoppable space by recovering the floor and fitting rooms, updating signs and pricing, and supporting any needed merchandise moves.
  • They always Finish Strong - sharing our Loyalty program benefits, making sure customers have all they need, and ending with a sincere thank-you, often walking the package around and using the customer’s name.
  • We believe service starts with each other - supporting one another with honesty, care, and collaboration so we can better serve our customers and communities.
  • And we know that excellence is a journey - we strive to improve every day, take pride in our work, achieve sales goals and learn from each other to deliver individual and store results.

Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, while part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. All schedules contain weekend shifts as part of the requirements. Hours are dependent on business needs and colleague availability. Information regarding hours per week needed for benefit eligibility purposes can be found here.

Who You Are

  • Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays with regular, dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Must be able to:
    • Understand and communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and supervisors
    • Read and understand employment policies and safety rules/procedures in English
  • Be comfortable communicating and collaborating with customers and colleagues
  • Responsible for acquiring new customers by opening credit accounts and sharing loyalty benefits
  • Meeting daily sales goal challenges
  • Enjoy meeting people, learning about them, and sharing information
  • Resourceful and eager to start a new venture and can adapt to changing priorities; you can work on your own but are great with team dynamics
  • You can handle electronic devices with no problem
  • At least 2 years of selling or customer experience preferred

Essential Physical Requirements You Will Perform

  • This position requires talking, lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands
  • Standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 25lbs., stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders, reaching, including above eye level
  • Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
  • Frequent use of computers and other technology, necessary to perform job functions, including handheld equipment, cash register and ability to process register transactions
