Job description

The Archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 216 parishes in Cook County and Lake County, a geographic area of 1,411 square miles. Position Summary
Reporting to the Safe Environment Director in the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth (OPCY), the Program Manager, Background Checks is a highly-organized leader who is responsible for ensuring that all candidates for employment in Catholic schools are thoroughly screened and vetted through a fingerprint background check process prior to hire. The Program Manager will work independently and cross-functionally to review and assess background check results, consult other departments to determine candidate eligibility, and notify hiring managers of committee decisions. This is full-time, non-exempt position.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for receiving, assessing, and processing fingerprint background check results for all school employees.
  • Conducts the initial review of results, clears candidates when appropriate, and escalates results with "hits" to a cross-functional committee from legal, human resources, and child safety leadership for review.
  • Leads the cross-functional committee meetings to assess "hits."
  • Requests additional information from candidates when needed.
  • Reviews and processes rap back reports.
  • Notifies hiring managers if candidates are cleared or not eligible for employment.
  • Confidentially tracks and records all information in the appropriate databases.
  • Stores records according to the Archdiocese of Chicago's record retention and confidentiality policies.
  • May also be responsible for reviewing name-based background check and DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System (CANTS) background check results and/or sending those results to the committee for review.
  • Writes and creates resources, such as communications assets, presentations, and draft policies, to disseminate information about background check policies and procedures across the Archdiocese.
  • Remains up to date on industry best practices and assesses procedures to identify areas of continuous improvement.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in positions required strong organization, writing, and documentation skills.
  • Experience in human resources and/or child/youth safety.
  • Experience communicating with leaders at multiple levels of organizations.
  • Experience leading meetings with a high level of confidentiality.
  • Capable of working at a fast pace with a high volume of work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong judgement and ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with leaders in legal, human resources, and child safety departments.
  • Experience reviewing and processing background check results for a large school system.

This position has an hourly range of $31.73 - $35.25. An employee's pay within the hourly range will be based on many factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
