Job description
The Center for Drug Discovery (https://www.bcm.edu/research/centers/drug-discovery) is a strategic research center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. The lab is looking for self-motivated candidates with a strong sense of teamwork, curiosity, and enthusiasm for biomedical research (specifically, drug metabolism and blood testis barrier). The lab is well-equipped with Thermos UHPLC-Q Exactive MS, Orbitrap Exploris™ 120, Thermo Quintus (triple quadruple), and Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS, Bruker timsTOF fleX MALDI-2). Understanding the drug metabolism could predict the possible adverse events of drugs in clinic and also could reduce the risk of the drug candidates in drug development. Determining chemical features passing BTB will facilitate the drug development for therapeutic targets behind BTB. Strong scientific judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to identify important scientific questions will be highly valued.
- Plans, designs and conducts animal experiments as well as cell cultures.
- Characterizes the drug metabolites using High-resolution LC-MS and NMR.
- Analyzes LC-MS data from mouse tissue and plasma to evaluate their abilities for passing through BTB using imaging mass spectrometry.
- Documents and interprets experimental results and reports to principal investigators.
- Assists with manuscript preparation and writing.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
- Experience in LC-MS-based omics and imaging mass spectrometry method development and sample preparation, and data analysis.
- Has strong academic integrity, independent research ability, and a collaborative team spirit.
