Shift: Full-time, Three 12-hour shifts 1900 – 0730 and 0700-1930 Work Arrangement: On-Site Department: Medical Specialties / Adult Medical

· Base Pay Range: $16.68 - $26.31 per hour, based on experience

About The Job MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate and motivated Nurse Tech to join our Medical Specialties team. In this role, you will provide direct patient care and support to a diverse population of adult patients experiencing a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions, including pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, infectious diseases, and other complex medical illnesses. Medical Specialties is a 55-bed unit divided into east and west wings. We deliver exceptional medical and nursing care to a varied patient population, ranging from young adults (18+) to the elderly. Our unit primarily admits patients with acute episodes or chronic conditions that do not necessitate a more specialized unit. We treat a wide array of illnesses, including pneumonia, sepsis, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, cellulitis, infectious diseases, mental status changes, and substance withdrawal.

Detailed Job Description

· Assist nursing staff /ancillary staff in transferring patients from bed to bed, stretcher or wheelchair, pickup and delivery of patient meal trays, and assisting with patient feeding as directed.

· Demonstrate the ability to organize workload and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a clutter-free and orderly environment including prompt answering of unit telephones and accurate delivery of messages and information to patients, families, visitors, staff, and personnel upon request.

· Educate and train new staff members in the responsibilities of the Care Team Associate role.

· Perform other duties as delegated by nursing staff and unit management as needed in both routine and emergent situations.

· Perform patient position changes, placement and removal of patient equipment, daily hygiene care, simple non-sterile dressing changes, finger stick glucose checks, may perform venipuncture to obtain a blood sample, maintain quality control checks, and deliver/retrieve lab specimens and supplies as requested.

· Responsible for accurate and timely entry of information into the bed-management system.

· Responsible for prompt response to patient call lights and addressing patient needs using positive guest relations skills while ensuring patient vital signs, intake, output, height, and weight were obtained and documented as directed.

· May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

Required Qualifications

One of the following:

· Is enrolled in a professional or practical nursing education program and has or will complete a Fundamentals of Nursing course within 90 days; or

· Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam registration; or

· Proof of certification as a Patient Care Technician (PCT); or

· Direct patient care experience in the past three (3) years as a medical assistant, nursing assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician; or

· Completion within the last three (3) years, or will complete within 180 days, an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) training program and clinical log demonstrating 100 hours of patient care experience; or

· Nursing licensure candidate who was unsuccessful on the state licensure examinations in the past three (3) years; or

· Completion a nursing program outside the United States and is awaiting the licensure examination in this country.

Preferred Qualifications

· Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
