Job Summary:
The Tool Crib Manager oversees the daily operation of the tool crib, ensuring tools, equipment, and hardware are available, maintained, and accurately tracked to support field and shop operations. This role manages inventory, budgets, safety, and vendor relationships while leading the Tool Crib team to provide efficient and reliable service. Depending on the size of the operation, the Tool Crib Manager either supervises staff or performs day-to-day tool crib and warehouse activities, including inventory control, equipment staging, storage, and delivery coordination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the workload of assigned reports, conducting performance evaluations and supporting professional development; in smaller or single-person cribs, directly executes daily warehouse and administrative operations with high independence.
- Enforces responsible inventory management by labeling shelves with minimum/maximum "just-in-time" quantities, storing tools in designated zones, and maintaining clear, clean laydown areas for oversized equipment.
- Partners with the purchasing department to order tools and hardware from the primary preferred vendor, utilizing a secondary primary vendor to resolve backorders and proactively notifying impacted personnel of fulfillment delays.
- Manages relationships with key external vendors, maximizing manufacturer warranty, repair, and buy-back programs, and communicating promotional specials to purchasing and the logistics manager for vetting.
- Oversees logistics operations, coordinates combined deliveries and pickups with local construction operations departments, and provides hands-on shipping and receiving support when operating without dedicated crib staff.
- Establishes, implements, and monitors departmental safety and in-house cleaning protocols, maintaining a tidy workspace free of debris and hazards using 5S Housekeeping Methodologies.
- Supervises the strategic alignment and day-to-day use of inventory management databases, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and business-owned rental applications across related business units.
- Directs regular stock audits and high-level inventory reconciliations to resolve discrepancies, analyzing tool wear patterns and consumption rates to support predictive tool management.
- Partners with estimating, project management, and field operations to forecast tool and equipment requirements for upcoming project lifecycles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements (Work Experience, Skills, Licenses, etc.):
- Demonstrated background in managing inventory, shipping/receiving, warehouse processes, and integrated supply chain management.
- Deep technical understanding of manual, pneumatic, and electrical construction tools, safety equipment, and basic tool repair.
- High-level proficiency in inventory databases, digital tool tracking, ERP platforms, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and automated tool dispensing solutions.
- Familiarity with Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Calendar) and MS Office products (Word, Excel) to maintain organized data logs, tracking calendars, and inventory files.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience managing capital and operational budgets, executing vendor contracts, and tracking cost savings.
- Expert ability to use data patterns to identify abnormal consumption, forecast inventory reorder points, and perform technical troubleshooting (e.g., PLC for automated dispensing).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including phone/email etiquette, and the ability to provide clear, understandable direction to others.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage complex schedules and maintain professional courtesy in a fast-paced, hectic work environment.
Education and Experience:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, related field, or equivalent experience.
7+ years in tool crib, warehouse, or inventory operations, including 3+ years in a supervisory or management role.
Minimum of 3 years of experience managing capital and operational budgets.
Desired:
Experience in a regional management role.
Certifications in supply chain management or inventory control.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

Hours:
This is an exempt position. Workdays are scheduled from Monday through Friday. Typically, work hours begin and end between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm as scheduled with the position's supervisor. Work outside of regular hours may occasionally be necessary to meet business needs.

Competitive Wages:
$89,500.00 to $122,750.00 annually. Applicants, please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
