Overview:
Sentara RMH Medical Center is hiring a Lactation Consultant for the LDRP in Harrisonburg, VA! This is a part time, day shift position.
Hours: Three 6-hour shifts per week with every other weekend rotation Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Shift time: Morning hours before 9am.
The Lactation Consultant focuses on helping breastfeeding women and their families define and achieve their breastfeeding goals by providing evidenced based care, customer service, and cultural sensitivity. Provides breastfeeding education to other health care professional team members, possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet lactation practice standards as required by International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
About the LDRP:
Sentara RMH Medical Centers Family Birthplace includes 10 private bed L&D, and a 20 bed post-partum mother/baby. Our Level 2 newborn specialty care nursery has a 1 to 1 ratio while our intermediate care babies have a 1 to 3 nursing ratio. Our LDRP unit also offers post operative care for complex GYN and Breast surgical needs. This specialty area has a 100-member team cross trained to offer best in class healthcare to Harrisonburg, VA, and surrounding areas. The schedule is primarily 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends and holiday requirements. Awarded as US News Top Maternity Care Hospitals, the LDRP at Sentara RMH Medical Center offers state-of-the-art care while maintaining personalized experiences for all patients.

Education
  • Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing
  • BSN or MSN Preferred
  • Nurse Practitioner level degree

Certification/Licensure
  • Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. required
  • BLS within 90 days of hire required
  • Registered nursing license required OR Physician Assistant License required
  • EFM- Electronic Fetal monitoring preferred
  • Certified Obstetrics Nursing preferred
  • IBCLC within 2 years of hire (Required)

Experience
  • 2 years of acute care registered nurse experience in Women's health preferred
  • 1 year of acute care nursing or PA experience, required.
  • Labor and Delivery specific Experience preferred
  • Mother Baby specific experience preferred
  • 1 year of specific lactation experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of patient safety protocols.
