Night Shift Python Django Backend Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Night Shift Python Django Backend Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Night Shift Python Django Backend Developer, you need strong proficiency in Python, Django framework, RESTful API development, and a solid understanding of databases, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control tools like Git, containerization platforms such as Docker, and cloud services (AWS, Azure) is typically required, and certifications in these areas can be advantageous. Excellent problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and the capacity to work independently during night hours help you excel in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensure consistent, reliable backend performance and timely project delivery while collaborating across different time zones.

What are some common challenges faced by Night Shift Python Django Backend Developers, and how can I prepare for them?

Night shift Python Django Backend Developers often encounter challenges related to working with limited real-time collaboration, as most teammates and stakeholders may be offline. This can require independent problem-solving and strong written communication skills to document progress and raise issues for the next shift. Additionally, maintaining a healthy work-life balance and managing fatigue are important, so it's helpful to establish a consistent routine and leverage asynchronous communication tools. Preparing by familiarizing yourself with the team's handover processes and project management platforms can make the transition into night shift work smoother and more productive.

What are Night Shift Python Django Backend Developers?

Night Shift Python Django Backend Developers are software engineers who specialize in building and maintaining server-side applications using the Python programming language and the Django web framework, specifically working during nighttime hours. Their main responsibilities include developing backend logic, integrating databases, creating APIs, and ensuring the performance and security of web applications. Working the night shift may involve collaborating with teams in different time zones, providing overnight technical support, or maintaining critical systems outside regular business hours. These developers are essential for organizations that require 24/7 operations or support global clients.

Job description

Sr. Backend Software Engineer | Python, Django, AWS | Data Platforms and Reliability
Full-Time | On-site (Laguna Hills, CA) | Dog-friendly office

This is a senior systems role with real ownership.
Recall Masters (RM) is a leading B2B technology company in the automotive space. We deliver data-driven recall services that help dealers and OEM partners reach customers faster, resolve recalls more effectively, and improve service outcomes. Our platform runs the operational engine behind that delivery. It must be fast, secure, resilient, and observable at scale.

You will report directly to Chris Miller, CoFounder and Chief Architect.
Chris is hands-on and deeply technical. You will work close to core architecture decisions, own meaningful areas end-to-end, and help set the technical bar across backend reliability, data performance, and secure engineering practices.

What you will own

  • The robustness, scalability, and security of backend services that power mission-critical workflows
  • System performance for data-heavy applications, including query efficiency and pipeline throughput
  • Clear, durable integration patterns across third-party systems and internal services
  • Architecture evolution across monolith, microservices, and event-driven systems
  • Operational excellence: observability, monitoring, incident response readiness, and safe deployments

The problems you will tackle (the fun part)

  • Designing authorization and security patterns that scale cleanly across services
  • Reducing latency in data-heavy workflows (PostgreSQL and Redshift) while keeping correctness high
  • Building resilient async/event-driven processing for high-volume operational workloads
  • Creating integration patterns that survive real-world failure modes (retries, idempotency, backoff, dead-lettering)
  • Improving CI/CD and release confidence, including automated testing strategy and deployment safeguards
  • Turning cloud infrastructure into an advantage (cost, speed, reliability), not an afterthought

What success looks like in your first 90 days

  • Ship a substantial backend improvement that measurably improves speed, reliability, or security
  • Improve one critical data workflow end-to-end (query performance, throughput, cost efficiency, or stability)
  • Strengthen observability in a key service area (metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting)
  • Deliver a hardened integration or event-driven workflow with strong failure handling and test coverage

What you will do

  • Build and maintain backend services with Python and Django using strong engineering practices
  • Design and implement secure authorization and access controls
  • Develop and optimize cloud-based, data-heavy applications in AWS
  • Build and maintain third-party integrations with robust error handling and clear operational visibility
  • Work hands-on with AWS services (including Lambda) and data platforms (Redshift, PostgreSQL, Dremio as applicable)
  • Partner with product and design to translate user needs into feasible engineering solutions
  • Create crisp technical breakdowns and tickets that move work from idea to shipped outcome
  • Maintain disciplined workflows using Jira, GitHub, and CircleCI pipelines

What we are looking for
Required

  • 3+ years of backend development experience with strong Python skills
  • Strong production experience with Django
  • AWS experience required, including building and operating cloud applications
  • Demonstrated strength in security, authorization, scalability, and testability
  • Experience with third-party integrations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Clear track record of ownership and delivering complete, high-quality solutions

Preferred (strong plus)

  • AWS Lambda
  • PostgreSQL and Redshift performance optimization
  • Dremio experience
  • Event-driven backend patterns and practical system design trade-offs
  • CI/CD maturity with CircleCI and GitHub workflows
  • Comfort proposing infrastructure improvements that improve scalability and reliability

Our interview process (no surprises)

  • 20-minute intro call
  • 45-minute deep dive with Chris Miller
  • 90-minute practical session (job-real exercise: system design scenario, code review, or debugging walkthrough)
  • Final team conversation
We aim to move quickly and provide feedback within 48 hours.

Culture and benefits
On-site in Laguna Hills, CA, in a dog-friendly office with a collaborative team and great energy. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, PTO and sick time, 401(k), life insurance, EAP, wellness benefit, snacks and drinks, games, community initiatives, and ongoing learning opportunities.

Ready to build high-impact systems with a high-caliber team? Apply today.

Additional requirements: onsite in Laguna Hills, CA. U.S. citizens residing in the U.S. Background check, drug screen, and reference checks required. No agencies.
