Waxer/ Stripper - Nights - Environmental Services

Under the supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor, strips, waxes and buffs floors and corridors and performs a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain the hospital in an orderly and sanitary condition. To support and adhere to the hospital's mission, vision and value statement by performing all work consistently adhering to patient, staff and visitor's safety, patient confidentiality and the Hospital's standard of customer service.

  • Dry/wet mops and maintains floor care program including: stripping, waxing, scrubbing, re-coating, restoring and various floor machines.

  • Ensures proper use of wet floor signs.

  • Cleans and maintains all areas of the hospital, including restrooms, walls, furniture, surrounding ledges, windows, ceiling, vents, and all physical surfaces requiring cleaning.

  • Performs high dusting/low dusting all horizontal and vertical surfaces with required equipment i.e., assistance of ladders and scaffolds.

  • Transports/disposes of refuse, both infectious and non-infectious, as prescribed and in accordance with city/state codes.

  • Vacuums/spot cleans, extracts, and shampoos carpeting as assigned. Is required to organize, clean and maintain housekeeping closet.

  • Responsible to keep slop sink area clean. Furthermore, required to store equipment in appropriate areas before breaks.

  • Cleans all equipment at the end of each shift before storage. Cleans/maintains entire elevators. Is responsible for both on site/off site meeting room preparation including cleaning and setting up, breaking down and storage.

  • Removes beds, equipment furnishing etc., from floor, transports to floor i.e., specific areas as requested/changes mattress/assembles bed.

  • Follows prescribed methods when preparing discharge rooms including isolation cleaning.

  • Complete discharge cleaning, removal of linen and making of beds. Receiving, packing and distribution of linen hospital wide.

  • Transports, packs, weighs, prepares for pick-up of soiled linen.

  • Removes linen/replaces linen/makes bed in on-call doctor's rooms.

  • Removes debris in outside areas, maintains exterior of the building, utilizing brooms, power washer, hose, blowers; removal of snow and ice.

This is a full time night, 11:30 pm to 7:30 am position located at NewYork-Presbyterian / Lower Manhattan Hospital.

This role has the potential work weekends and holidays.

Required Criteria:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions

  • Capable of using equipment and tools necessary for performance of duty

  • Interacts positively with patients, staff and visitors

  • Follows established procedure

Preferred Criteria:

  • 3 to 6 months hospital housekeeping experience

Salary Range:

$25.05-$26.93/Hourly
