Position Summary

Rustica is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Woods Department Night Shift Manager to lead our Woods Department night shift. This is a working manager role, ideal for someone who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty alongside the team while also developing people, improving processes, and running an efficient, safe, high-output shop.

The right candidate will bring strong woodworking and craftsmanship skills, working side by side with the crew on the floor while driving performance and continuously improving workflow, quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery. To set them up for success, the chosen candidate will train alongside our day shift leadership before transitioning to lead the night shift team independently.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of woodworkers, painters, and builders/crafts personnel.
  • Set daily priorities, assign work, and keep workflow moving efficiently across the shop.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, corrective action, and skill development.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-minded culture.

Operations & Production

  • Oversee daily woodworking and finishing activities to ensure quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery.
  • Step in to build, finish, or assist as needed to meet deadlines or troubleshoot issues.

Process Improvement & Efficiency

  • Identify inefficiencies and implement systems to streamline production and reduce waste.
  • Maintain and improve SOPs for woodworking, finishing, and shop operations.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all work meets Rustica's quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Monitor equipment condition, oversee maintenance schedules, and keep a clean, OSHA-compliant shop.

Safety

  • Enforce all safety standards, PPE requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Lead and document safety trainings, inspections, and corrective actions.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a woodworking, cabinetry, or production shop environment.
  • Strong woodworking and craftsmanship knowledge (joinery, finishing, millwork, etc.).
  • Ability to work alongside the crew when needed while primarily functioning as a leader.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, workflow, and efficiency.
  • Ability to read plans, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and people management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a wood shop or finish carpentry operation.
  • Familiarity with Lean, 5S, or continuous improvement tools.
  • Working knowledge of CNC routers, wide belt sanders, and finishing equipment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE including eye, hearing, and dust protection.

Schedule

Night Shift start: 4:30 PM (once day training is complete)

Shift end: 12:00 AM (midnight) โ€” or 2:00 AM depending on schedule format

Schedule format: 4x10 or 5-day shift (to be determined)
