Job description

Our Livonia Distribution Center, a 400,000 sq. ft. refrigerated facility operating 24/7, is currently seeking a Switcher to join our team. The essential function of this position is to move truck trailers in the yard and prepare trucks for loading or unloading our greenhouse grown produce. The switcher makes sure that the area remains clear so traffic can pass through easily. This position reports to the Shipping Manager.
Full-time Night Shift - B2 Thursday - Saturday 6 pm - 6 am alternating Wednesdays
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Complete pre-trip/post-trip inspections of truck and cargo.
  • Maintain the daily cross-dock switching operation by switching trailers to the appropriate locations
  • and wash bays as requested.
  • Monitor condition of equipment and report all issues immediately.
  • Ensure that material is properly protected from the outdoor elements.
  • Ensure that the load is safely and correctly placed and is secured by using E-Tracking or Load
  • Bars to avoid damage to the truck or to the goods.
  • Responsible for performing daily vehicle inspection such tires, lights, brakes, oil, and water.
  • Responsible for reporting any accidents, incidents, or equipment damage that occurs.
  • Participate, support and comply with all health, safety requirements.
  • Continually follow all U.S DOT requirements.
  • Train others when required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years current Trailer/Truck experience required.
  • Clean driving record required with no more than 3 minor violations in the last 3 years.
  • Accidents - no major chargeable in the last 3 years and no more than 1 minor chargeable per year in the last 3 years.
  • CDL Class A License is highly preferred.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate to transport hazardous material preferred
  • Must be dependable and able to perform tasks in a timely and safe manner.
  • Must be able to pass road/yard test.
  • Complete a background and drug test screening.

Working Conditions:
  • Work in a trucking yard.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. with or without accommodation
  • Position requires sitting, standing, walking and bending, squatting, and crawling on a regular basis
