Job description

Position Overview:

Our new facility, established in 2014, features a Med-Surg Department with 13 beds, linked to a 3-bed ICU. We maintain a patient-to-nurse ratio of 4:1 during the day and 5:1 at night, with Certified Nursing Assistants available on all shifts. Our security team is on duty 24/7 to ensure the safety of both patients and staff. Nurses work 12-hour shifts and are scheduled every third weekend. Due to our smaller size, we have the opportunity to form meaningful connections with our patients.

Many nurses find the Med-Surg Department to be an excellent starting point for their careers, often falling in love with the environment and choosing to stay long-term!

Our team is frequently described as a second family, making our facility a truly wonderful place to work.

Schedule:

  • Week 1 - Tuesday
  • Week 2 - Thursday, Saturday
  • Week 3 - Thursday
  • Week 4 - Tuesday, Thursday
  • Week 5 - Saturday
  • Week 6 - Wednesday, Thursday

Job Summary:

Deliver direct nursing care in alignment with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of our organization.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Apply medical-surgical nursing standards to enhance the quality of care and life for patients, families, and significant others by systematically assessing the effectiveness of nursing practices.
  • Build effective relationships and advocate for patients and their families to create personalized care plans that address individual needs.
  • Utilize the nursing process to formulate and execute care plans, gather assessment data, establish nursing diagnoses, identify expected outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate results.
  • Develop assessment and management strategies considering various dimensions of human responses to health issues, including physical, cultural, social, and spiritual aspects.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how actual or potential illnesses affect each patient's overall status.
  • Employ leadership skills by collaborating with patients, families, communities, and interdisciplinary team members to assess needs, set goals, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Engage in effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure culturally sensitive, ethical, and compassionate care within available resources.
  • Educate patients and families on health promotion, maintenance, and comfort measures.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by mentoring and serving as a role model for nursing colleagues and students.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge into medical-surgical nursing, ensuring care is tailored to patients' age-specific and clinical needs.
  • Maintain a state of alertness and safety in all activities.
  • May conduct point-of-care testing in accordance with established policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent educational background for licensing.

EXPERIENCE:

  • No prior experience necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regular verbal communication to convey information.
  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Regular sitting, reaching, and data entry.

  • Frequent auditory skills to receive verbal communication and identify alarms.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)

For Missouri:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State

For Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) - Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN)

For Wisconsin:
