Job description

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking a Shift Manager Electrical Maintenance to join our Indiana Harbor team. This front-line leadership role is responsible for leading and supporting a skilled team of electrical maintenance technicians while ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.


As a Shift Manager, you will spend much of your time in the field providing daily direction, coordinating maintenance activities, supporting troubleshooting efforts, and developing employees. Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Maintenance Technician Electrical (MTE) employees during assigned shifts, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Conduct routine safety observations, audits, and follow-up actions to support a safe working environment.
  • Coordinate and prioritize daily electrical maintenance activities to support production and operational goals.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and technical support for troubleshooting electrical, automation, and control system issues.
  • Monitor equipment performance and work with team members to identify and resolve reliability concerns.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop maintenance employees through training, feedback, and performance management.
  • Ensure employees have the tools, resources, and support needed to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Reliability, and other departments to minimize downtime and improve equipment performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, quality, and reliability.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities including work assignments, employee documentation, and shift communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Two (2) or more years of electrical maintenance experience in manufacturing, industrial, military, or related operations environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and safe work practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs and automated control systems, industrial drives and motor controls, instrumentation and process automation, power distribution systems, AC/DC motors and electrical systems, industrial networking and troubleshooting technologies, etc.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, power transmission equipment, lubrication systems, pumps, process water systems, and overhead cranes.
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment that may include exposure to heat, dust, heights, stairs, ladders, uneven walking surfaces, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Participate in rotating shifts schedule, weekend, night, holiday, off-shift, and emergency response coverage as required.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Three (3)+ years of electrical maintenance experience in heavy manufacturing, steel, mining, industrial, or military environments.
  • Two (2)+ years of frontline leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience leading or working within a unionized workforce.
  • Experience in steel manufacturing, metals, mining, or other heavy industrial operations.
