Job description

POSITION: National Honor Society (NHS) Advisor

Compensation: Stipend $500 (Paid at the End of the School Year)

Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Reports To: Building Principal

Classification: Extra Duty

Terms of Employment: During the 176-Day Teacher Work Year

Evaluation: Performance on this position will be evaluated in accordance with district procedures for Extra Duty Personnel.

Supervisory Duties: Supervises students during NHS meetings, activities, events, and service projects.

JOB SUMMARY

The National Honor Society (NHS) Advisor is responsible for overseeing and supporting all aspects of the school's NHS chapter. The advisor serves as the liaison between students, faculty, administration, parents, and the community while promoting the core values of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The advisor provides guidance and leadership to student officers and members in planning and implementing chapter activities, meetings, service projects, and membership processes in accordance with NHS national standards and district policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and oversee all functions of the NHS chapter, including meetings, activities, service projects, induction ceremonies, and membership processes
  • Coordinate the selection, induction, discipline, and dismissal procedures of chapter members in accordance with NHS guidelines and district policies
  • Serve as the liaison between students, faculty, administration, parents, and the community regarding NHS activities and expectations
  • Maintain accurate chapter records, including membership rosters, chapter history, meeting minutes, financial transactions, bylaws, and activity documentation
  • Review and monitor active members for compliance with NHS standards, obligations, and participation requirements
  • Collaborate with student officers to develop meeting agendas, yearly activity calendars, and chapter goals
  • Hold regular planning meetings with NHS officers and student leaders
  • Support the development of student leadership, responsibility, teamwork, and service learning opportunities
  • Ensure all chapter activities and procedures comply with the NHS National Constitution, NHS Handbook, district policies, and school procedures
  • Communicate regularly with school administration regarding chapter activities, student participation, and program effectiveness
  • Coordinate fundraising activities and community service opportunities as approved by administration
  • Supervise students during meetings, school events, service projects, and off-campus activities as needed
  • Promote positive student involvement, citizenship, academic achievement, and school pride
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Administration

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, administration, and community organizations
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate student activities and events
  • Knowledge of NHS standards, bylaws, and student leadership development preferred
  • Knowledge of district procedures regarding student activities, fundraising, and supervision preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check (IVP Fingerprint Card)
  • May be required to work evenings and outside normal school hours for meetings, ceremonies, events, and student activities
  • May be required to supervise or attend off-campus events and service activities
