Position Summary:
The Kraken Youth Hockey Association is seeking a dedicated and experienced Hockey Coach to join our team. This position is responsible for instructing and leading a variety of on-ice programs for participants of all ages, spanning skill levels from beginners to AAA. The ideal candidate will create and implement age- and skill-appropriate drills, lead team practices, clinics, and camps, and demonstrate modern skating techniques. The role also includes maintaining a safe, clean, and family-friendly environment, assisting with customer injuries, and working in varied conditions, including cold temperatures and irregular hours.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Instruct and lead the various on-ice programming at Kraken Youth Hockey Association with high level of detail. Ages 4-21. Beginners - AAA
  • Create drills that are age/skill appropriate for team practices
  • Lead team practices, clinics, and camps
  • Demonstrate and teach modern skating
  • Performs other related job functions as assigned
  • Work well in team settings and continuously learn about the coaching role
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and family-friendly environment
  • Assist customers in the event of an injury
  • Work in cool temperatures and varied schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Ice skate and wear skates for long periods of time
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience & Qualifications:
  • Previous track record of coaching experience
  • USA Hockey Level 1 Certification
  • Current Member of USA Hockey
  • Up to date Safesport Certification
  • Pass background check
  • Own on-ice coaching equipment (skates, gloves, helmet, stick, whistle)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first.

Total Rewards Package:
  • Compensation:
    • In accordance with Washington's Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the pay range for this position is $30-$50/hour. Actual pay will depend on employee's experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
    • This role is classified as part-time, non-exempt.
    • Overtime eligibility.

Working Conditions:
  • Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.

  • Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
