An NGO Writing job involves creating grant proposals, reports, fundraising materials, and communications for nonprofit organizations. Writers in this role help secure funding, engage donors, and promote the NGO's mission through clear and compelling content. Strong research, writing, and storytelling skills are essential.
Professionals in NGO writing are often responsible for drafting grant proposals, donor reports, newsletters, website content, and press releases that communicate the organization's mission and impact. They collaborate with program teams to gather accurate information, highlight success stories, and translate complex concepts into clear, engaging language. A typical week might include researching funding opportunities, coordinating with multiple departments, editing submissions, and ensuring all materials align with the organization's branding and messaging. Adaptability and teamwork are valued, as priorities can shift quickly in response to new projects or funding deadlines. Over time, experienced writers may take on leadership roles or specialize in fundraising strategy, communications, or advocacy.
To succeed in NGO writing, you need excellent written communication skills, strong research abilities, and a background in nonprofit, communications, or journalism is often preferred. Familiarity with grant-writing software, fundraising platforms, and content management systems is valuable, along with knowledge of donor management tools. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines are important soft skills that help you craft compelling narratives and proposals. These capabilities are essential for effectively conveying an NGO's mission, securing funding, and engaging diverse audiences.

Lush is more than just a fresh, handmade cosmetics company. It is a company that wants to make skin, hair and bathing products in a way that benefits the world, not depletes it. We have strong opinions on nature, the environment, human rights & animal rights - and we try to build these into all our business practices.
Our search for best practice means we are constantly made aware of where the problems lay, and also brings us into close contact with others, such as charities, NGOs, activists and community groups who are working to make the world a better, safer, kinder place.
Over the years, Lush has made it a mission to help these groups, who share the same concerns as us, by helping fund their work and also, importantly, giving them a platform in our shop windows and websites to reach through to the public.
We have become known as a campaigning company, for both our internal business practices and our willingness to highlight world issues in our windows. Staff and customers appreciate the integrity of Lush's values, hold us to account and are an active part of upholding our standards. For them our campaigns are a source of inspiration and pride.
A rare opportunity has come up to join our small, worldwide Campaigns Team so we are now looking for the perfect person to join our team to further the Lush values, help shape our public facing campaigns and engage with external groups who are working to improve the world. This role would suit someone who is driven by a desire to shift public awareness, has experience of active campaigning and who has the ability to meaningfully engage with everyone from external grassroots activists to internal staff and company leadership.
We are looking for someone who is active in Human Rights, Animal Rights or Environmental issues and understands the landscape of campaigning and activism in the UK and is connected to it. We are excited to have someone new on our team who can represent young activists, those driving change through diversity and inclusion and bring awareness of voices that are less heard.
Success in this role is measured by an ability to shift public awareness, drive tangible legislative change or social action on the ground, and keep our shop floors actively engaged in our campaigns.
