What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an NFL Video Editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an NFL Video Editor, you need expertise in video editing techniques, a solid understanding of football, and proficiency with a degree in film, media, or a related field often preferred. Familiarity with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and media asset management systems is crucial. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines are essential soft skills. These skills ensure the production of high-quality, engaging content that meets the fast-paced demands of NFL media and enhances the viewer experience.

What are some common challenges NFL video editors face during the football season?

NFL video editors often work under tight deadlines, especially during the football season when highlights, game recaps, and analysis need to be delivered quickly for broadcast or digital platforms. Managing large volumes of high-definition footage and ensuring accuracy in play sequences can be demanding. Additionally, editors frequently collaborate with producers, announcers, and graphics teams to maintain consistency and meet creative goals. Adaptability and strong communication skills help editors navigate these fast-paced environments.

What is NFL video editing?

NFL video editing is the process of assembling, cutting, and enhancing video footage related to National Football League (NFL) games, teams, and events. Editors work with game highlights, player interviews, press conferences, and promotional content to create engaging videos for broadcast, social media, or internal team use. This often involves using specialized software, understanding football terminology and storylines, and working closely with producers and coaches to ensure accuracy and entertainment value. NFL video editors play a crucial role in delivering compelling content to fans and stakeholders.

Job description

WANTED: Creative, fast-moving, sports-obsessed Junior Video Producer to power our exploding lineup of NFL team-focused YouTube shows. This is a full-time role working from the Chat Sports HQ in Dallas, TX.
Chat Sports has continued to rapidly grow to become a leading sports media brand on YouTube. We kicked off in 2019 with just 3 shows - and now we're at 49 shows and 60 million+ monthly viewers, following the recent launch of 7 NFL shows. Our goal is to inform and entertain - delivering unfiltered sports content for the most passionate fans of each team we cover. If you're applying, dive into our NFL shows here first - get familiar with our vibe.
We're ramping up for an epic 2026 NFL season and hiring Junior Video Producers ready to jump in and own production for several of our high-audience team-focused NFL shows. You'll handle production for live shows, on-demand videos, post-production, and creating short-form videos for our social media audience.
** Location: This is in-office only at our Dallas, TX HQ. Weekend and evening hours are non-negotiable during the NFL season. We'll fly in out-of-towners for auditions, but no relocation package is offered. **
The role:
- Run the production desk like a pro for live and on-demand YouTube programming, working with hosts to keep shows electric and on-brand
- Edit short-form clips from full shows for social (YouTube Shorts, TikTok, IG Reels) - bonus points if you're already slicing in CapCut, Premiere, or similar
- Own the full lifecycle: pre-prod (graphics, research, fact-checking), live execution (real-time decisions, audience engagement), post-prod (editing, copy, thumbnails, SEO tweaks, distribution)
- Bring creative heat - pitch bold ideas, spot trending storylines, and help shape content that fans can't scroll past
- Jump on-air when needed to banter with show hosts and keep the audience engaged
You’re the perfect fit if:
- You've got 1-2 years in live production, video journalism, or digital content creation (new grads with relevant internships, student media, or personal channels get strong consideration)
- You're tech-fluent: Windows/Mac, Google Workspace/Microsoft Office, Dropbox, video editing tools, and quick to learn new software
- You understand SEO basics: titles, tags, descriptions, thumbnails that actually drive audience and watch time
- You've managed or grown social/video content (YouTube, Facebook, TikTok) with an eye for what blows up engagement
- NFL knowledge runs deep (bonus for NBA/college football savvy) - you live for rosters, offseason moves, and game drama
- You're creative, adaptable, quick on your feet, and thrive in fast-paced chaos with tight deadlines
- Communication is sharp, you're proactive about leveling up skills, and you advocate hard for what the audience wants
- Organized, reliable, positive energy, and ready to grind weekends/evenings during football season
What you get:
- Be at the forefront of redefining sports media - grow huge channels, shape narratives, and turn fan passion into your career
- Competitive salary + full benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k, generous PTO)
- Daily team lunches on us - because nobody creates top sports content on an empty stomach
- A group of co-workers that celebrates big wins, big takes, and big personalities in a high-energy, collaborative HQ
Submit your resume and a killer cover letter (tell us why you're built for NFL chaos at Chat Sports), plus:
- Links to your best video work (edits, shorts, full productions, social posts)
- Any relevant social handles or portfolios
Apply right here in this post. Expect a practical interview process with sample tasks to prove you can produce, edit, and think like a fan-first creator.
