Department: Youth Programming
FLSA Classification: Nonexempt
Reports to: Youth Program Director
Summary
The acac Flag Football Referee is responsible for officiating youth flag football games in a fair, consistent, and professional manner. This role ensures games are played according to acac and NFL Flag Football rules, prioritizing player safety, sportsmanship, and positive competition. The referee plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and flow of the game while serving as a role model for respectful behavior and fair play.

Job Requirements
  • Officiate games for age divisions: 5-7, 8-10, and 11-14 years old, ensuring adherence to league rules.
  • Enforce game rules fairly and consistently while maintaining control of the game.
  • Promote sportsmanship and appropriate conduct among players, coaches, and spectators.
  • Provide clear, calm, and confident explanations of rules and decisions when necessary.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down the field equipment before and after games.
  • Report any incidents or injuries to the acac Youth Program Director in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain punctuality and preparedness for all assigned games.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Rate of pay is $30.00 per game.

Requirements
Physical demands
  • Must be able to move quickly across the field, run short distances, and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, walk, squat, and signal clearly with arms/hands throughout games.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 15 lbs of field equipment if needed.

Working Conditions
  • Outdoor recreational field settings.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, rain, and wind.
  • High public interaction with youth, coaches, and parents.

Proposed schedule
  • The season begins the week of August 31st with practices being held 1 day per week on either Tuesdays or Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (exact day/time TBD)
  • Games will be held from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM on September 12th, September 19th, September 26th, October 3rd, October 10th, October 17th
  • Playoffs will be held on October 24th
