Job Description

The Tier 3 GSOC Engineer is the top-level support tier in the GSOC for a complex global network. Focus area of this position is primarily on data center infrastructure; but, the candidate is expected to have additional general strengths with F5 and Cisco load balancing technologies. The responsibilities of this position often exist in engineering or architecture teams. This position will partner with those teams to ensure seamless integration into the production environment and the support structure. This function will be engaged at times to participate in incidents that have exceeded the ability of Tier 2 to resolve. The scope of this position spans the data network, wireless devices and numerous applications. A strong understanding of monitoring tools and techniques is required.


Roles 

- Must have excellent communication skills including written, oral and presentation

- Serve as the intake arm of the GSOC to ensure new systems or processes are introduced into roduction are fully monitored, documented, supportable and the Operations team has received the proper training and/or orientation to effectively provide support

- Continually improve upon skills and ability to learn new technologies

- Continually improve on skill sets and learn new technologies

- Participate in problem management processes that have engineering or architectural elements

- Resolve operational issues escalated from Tier 2 and ensure documentation and training occurs to ensure Tier 2 resolution on the next occurrence

- Mentor Tier 2 staff on event handling & response

- Demonstrate a dedication to seeing work delivered accurately and within SLA timeframes

- Works closely with teammates to ensure procedures and escalation processes are followed & communication occurs

- Routinely engage with and forge solid working relationships with the internal and client based Engineering & Architecture teams

- Work advanced issues dealing with newly implemented technologies or problem areas 

- Assist with resolving major impact incidents as required 

- Assure operational readiness in the GSOC for new projects and devices being added to the network

- Provide hands on support for a variety of data center technologies with a heavy focus on routing, switching, and load balancing specifically with the following technologies: Cisco Nexus platforms including Cisco Nexus FEX, Cisco Nexus 5K & Cisco Nexus 7K, load balancer platforms including Cisco CSS, Cisco GSS, F5 LTM, F5 GTM

- Identify, recommend and implement changes to documentation standards used in the GSOC

- Execute and analyze packet captures using Netscout, Wireshark and other related technologies

- Routinely mentor junior staff in areas of process, technology, execution and other areas

- Serve as extensions of the leadership team as directed for workload management and routine guidance

- Partner with the NMS tools team to develop new monitoring techniques and refine existing

- Perform or participate in complex maintenance or deployment activities 

- Create or modify documentation in response to new events and learning's

- Routinely provide constructive feedback for improvement opportunities

- Assist management with determining suitable training and areas of technical need within the team

- Assist with remediating major impacting service interruptions as required


Secondary Responsibilities

The resources comprising the Tier 3 function will be focused on their given area of expertise but will also be involved with other Tier 3 areas of responsibility as they will have relevance to primary focus areas. Subject matter expert level experience in these areas is not conditional for employment consideration but will be a key differentiator in evaluating candidates. A desire to learn new technologies is required and is a key criterion for continued success in the role.

Qualifications

- Experience with technologies such as: Cisco HSRP, Cisco VRF Lite, Cisco VPC, Cisco LACP, Cisco Fabric Path, Cisco GSS, Cisco CSS, Citrix NetScaler, Juniper VRRP, Juniper VLANs & Trunking, Juniper Layer 3 RVIs, Juniper Virtual Chassis, Netscout, Zone Security, Checkpoint & Juniper Firewalls

- Expertise with WAN technologies including Riverbed Steelhead, BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS, OSPF, Logical Overlay, Cisco IOS XR, Multicast, Carrier Circuit E1/T1/DS3 

- Experience with, configuration and maintenance of Windows Server 2008 - 2012 Operating Systems

- Experience with Windows Active Directory 2008 - 2012 including Group Policies, LDAP, DNS

- Experience with ADFS (Active Directory Federation Services) is preferred

- Experience and understanding of Highly Available Microsoft Exchange environments running Exchange 2007, 2013 and Office 365 Hybrid deployments

- Experience and understanding of Microsoft Lync Server 2010 - 2013

- Knowledge of Windows scripting (PowerShell, windows shell or command shell)


Education/Experience: 


- Experience with Network and/or application Architecture & Engineering with expert level knowledge of F5 and other load balancer technologies as outlined

- Expert level knowledge of the OSI model and TCP/IP Protocol Suite

- Advanced to expert knowledge of TCP/IP network routing and switching 

- Three or more of the following certifications or higher strongly preferred CCIE, F5-CTS, F5-CSE

- CCDP, JNCIP

- Expert knowledge of packet capture methodologies, tools and analysis

- Strong understanding of application communication methodologies 

- 10 years or more combined experience in operational and engineering roles 

- High level of confidence and competence communicating on bridges
